Description

The primary responsibility of the Senior Mechanical Engineer is to provide project leadership and oversight from concept to completion. 

  • Provide project management ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and of a high technical quality; demonstrate a desire to advance technical and project management knowledge and skills.
  • Design and analyze mechanical systems, including but not limited to, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration (HVACR), hydronic, plumbing, and fire protection systems. 
  • Communicate with drafters and designers to facilitate production of drawings.
  • Generate creative solutions; translate concepts and information into images; use feedback to modify and apply design principals and demonstrate a high level of attention to detail. Maintain high quality and uniform standards.
  • Perform (primarily computer-based) heating and cooling load calculations for building systems.
  • Prepare cost estimates, submittals, RFI’s, and specifications. 
  • Participate in peer reviews. 
  • Prepare monthly percent completes, projections and pre-bills for invoicing. Follow up with clients on past due invoices.
  • Coordinate and communicate clearly, effectively, and professionally with internal team members and other SKA disciplines along with external consultants, code officials, vendors, engineers, architects, contractors, clients, and owners.
  • Attend design coordination meetings with team members and client representatives, as necessary.
  • Preliminary field inspections and development of proposals.
  • Assist the design team in selecting equipment and provide input for operating procedures along with technical information.
  • Assist with field measurements, data collection, field reports, field observation and/or site inspections.
  • Partner with Marketing and Business Development in response to RFQ’s, preparing and participating in project interviews, and presentation support.
  • Provide training and development opportunities for less experienced team members.
  • Employee must be able to travel to jobsites as needed, up to 10% of the time, including overnight periodically.
Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field required with a minimum of fifteen years of relevant experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience, including certifications. Must have a proficient knowledge of mechanical systems, ASHRAE guidelines, and mechanical codes related to buildings and other structures. This includes HVAC systems, boilers, chillers, duct sizing, and piping. Familiarity with commissioning, plumbing systems, and fire protection systems preferred. Previous project management experience required.


Certifications, Licenses, Registrations 

Professional Engineer (P.E.); must have a valid driver's license with the ability to complete required OSHA training.  


Computer and Software Skills 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Internet. Basic knowledge of load calculation software is required. Must be knowledgeable of project management software. Familiarity with Bluebeam and construction document delivery software, such as AutoCAD and Revit, is preferred.

Infrequently will be required to bend, stoop, squat, crouch, kneel and crawl; perform overhead work, and lift and/or move up to fifty pounds.
