Description

Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Project Manager supports the success of public and capital projects for the North Carolina Railroad Company. This position manages project work, including working with consultants, conducting site visits, overseeing financial documentation, and maintaining accurate technical records. 


SUPERVISORY DUTIES:

  • None.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, prioritize, and manage multiple projects and project budgets.
  • Control cost within project scope and approved project budgets.
  • Manage public project and NCRR capital project documentation, including but not limited to documentation of project scope, project schedule, and project budget(s).  
  • Assist with site visits of public projects and NCRR capital projects and provide periodic updates to the Director. 
  • Evaluate invoices and related documents from engineering consultants and operating railroads for accuracy and completeness.
  • Manage the NCRR NC811 Program to maximize its effect on protecting the corridor by discovering illicit construction activity and generating new agreements.
  • Support the Director of Engineering in maintaining efficient organization of the Engineering department by updating project files, data, and critical written communications as directed.
  • Review plan submittals with CAD software or related applications and produce submittal responses to contractors/engineering firms.
  • Support the Director of Engineering with strategic planning concerning infrastructure assets, economic development initiatives, and business development opportunities. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 
Requirements

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Experience in basic survey knowledge of property associated with capital improvements and corridor infrastructure. 
  • Knowledge in track design. 
  • Knowledge of construction principles. 
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software. 
  • Proficient in NetSuite or similar ERP system experience and overall experience with cloud-based systems.
  • Project budget and finance management experience.
  • Strong Analytical and problem-solving Skills.
  • Strong desire to develop leadership skills.


EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION/DESIGNATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Planning, Engineering, or a related field. 
  • Certified Engineer-In-Training or Professional Engineer in the State of North Carolina.
  • Minimum of 3 years of project management experience.

  

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Up to 25%

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • This work is predominantly conducted in an office setting. 
  • Some fieldwork may be required.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. 
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
