Housekeeper/Kitchen Assistant
Description

The Upper New York Conference of the United Methodist Church has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Housekeeper/Kitchen Assistant at our Casowasco Camp & Retreat Center located in Moravia, NY, near the beautiful city of Auburn, NY. The Casowasco Camp & Retreat Center boasts over 200 wooded acres, a beautiful gorge, and over a mile of shoreline on Owasco Lake. 


The Housekeeper/Kitchen Assistant is responsible for the general cleanliness of buildings and facilities and assists in preparation of meals and overall cleanliness within the kitchen in accordance with policies established by the Board of Camps and Retreat Ministries, and directives set by the Director.  This is a position where the hours may vary but will be a minimum of 30 hours per week.


The Housekeeper/Kitchen Assistant is accountable to the Site Director for housekeeping responsibilities and the Food Service Manager for kitchen assistant responsibilities.


Responsibilities (Housekeeper):  

1. Perform routine and deep cleaning of buildings according to established schedules, including but not limited to vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, dusting, making beds, sanitizing bathrooms, washing windows, ordering supplies, collecting, and disposing of trash, cleaning sinks, counter tops, refrigerators, and microwaves, etc.

2. Wash, dry, fold, and prepare linen as needed. 

3. Replace and restock paper towels, toilet paper, trash bags, and other consumables

4. Maintain inventory of linen

5. Report building maintenance and repair needs

6. Assist in other responsibilities as directed

  

Responsibilities (Kitchen Assistant):  

1. Assist in the preparation, serving, and clean-up of meals, performing tasks including, but not limited to:

a. preparation of foods for cooking and servingb. carrying pots, pans, etc.c. storing food deliveries and left-over foodsd. cleaning and sanitizing work areas, dishes, utensils, etc. e. serving food from buffet linesf. distributing and setting up suppliesg. packing cook-out supplies for groupsh. loading/unloading vehicles; delivering foodsi. assisting with inventory


All work in the kitchen and with food must be done in compliance with all applicable health and safety regulations and standards.

Requirements

Experience and Background: 

  • At least 18 years old
  • Possess specific skill training or experience related to the position.
  • Experience or skilled in relating to guests, visitors, and staff
  • Possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record 
  • Desire to work in the food service area.
  • Ability to read menus, weights, and measures.
  • Some knowledge, or willingness to learn, of food preparation and serving, storage of food, and dishwashing procedures is preferred.
  • Possess basic mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division)

Education:

  • No minimum requirement

Theological Understandings: Ability to contribute positively as part of a worship community and to support the Discipline of The United Methodist Church as well as the policies of the UNY Conference. Knowledge of, or ability to learn the structure of The United Methodist Church. 


Other Essential Functions:

  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Be willing to work flexible hours, early mornings/evenings/weekends
  • Ability to work well with others

Salary Description
$16.00 to $17.00 per hour
