United Farmers Cooperative’s internships are designed to give students an opportunity to complement their formal education with career-related experiences. Gaining real world experiences also helps the participants to make more informed career choices, which will result in higher job satisfaction and higher productivity.

Our internships are paid programs that coordinate with the students’ schooling. Summer internships are available along with shorter seasonal internships. Interns will be assigned a mentor to assist them. Recruitment for summer interns is done in the fall with the goal of hiring decisions to be made by late winter.


Primary Objectives of the Position:

Gain an understanding of the agronomy industry through hands-on learning experiences and applying skills learned in the classroom in the field.


Major Areas of Accountability

In season seed duties including delivery, sorting, inventory, and returns

Plant tissue sampling

General field and crop scouting, soil sampling

Weed and insect identification

Work with agronomists to make proper recommendations

Provide customer service to local growers

Assist agronomists as needed

Develop and complete a field based summer learning project

Present project upon completion at end of internship

Attend training events

Effectively work with other employees in a team environment

Assist other agronomists/departments when needed

Other duties as assigned

Explore other divisions within UFC system.

Attend UFC employee appreciation event

Summer project presentation & exit interview

Requirements

Qualifications:

Student pursuing a degree in agriculture with emphasis in agronomy, crop, soil, weed management, ag business, or other ag science course work.

Must have a valid driver’s license.

Experience:

Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and customers

Diagnostic and decision making skills

Strong verbal and writing skills necessary.

Proficient computer skills

Willingness to work as a team member

Motivation to learn daily

Desire to remain updated with new agriculture trends and technology

Ag background a plus

Mechanical ability helpful.


Other:

Must be in good physical condition capable of lifting, carrying and pushing weights up to 50 pounds and have full use of both arms and legs and both hands.

Will work mainly in an outdoor environment in various weather conditions.

Pre-employment and random drug testing required.

Must attend all training sessions required by law.

Must comply with all safety regulations and policies of the company.
