Description

Bloomsbury Academic + Professional, a dynamic and rapidly growing division of Bloomsbury Publishing, seeks an experienced self-starter with the drive to succeed in a high-energy, results-oriented environment. 


The US Academic + Professional Sales Director is responsible for meeting/exceeding sales targets by developing strategic sales objectives, designing and recommending sales programs and offers (direct and third party), and identifying opportunities that grow revenue and market penetration across print and eBooks. This role includes management oversight of Bloomsbury’s academic content in print and electronic formats and will act as a senior stakeholder in all sales activities as well as sales operations and related workflows. The successful candidate will be a team player who thrives in a collaborative environment, has a proven track record of achieving financial targets, excellent communication and analytical skills, and a strategic mindset. 


Primary Responsibilities

  • Creation and execution of a comprehensive sales strategy for the US Academic + Professional business that results in meeting/exceeding agreed sales targets 
  • Effective management of the US academic sales teams, setting clear performance expectations and objectives and leading them to success
  • Management oversight of all North American accounts and sales channels including key accounts and adoption sales, as well as indie retail covered by third-party field representatives
  • Provide regular budgeting and forecasting, as well as other reporting that identifies trends supported by the sales data
  • Work in close collaboration with the Academic + Professional Marketing Director, ensuring that our sales and marketing efforts are joined into strategic and well-coordinated campaigns
  • Collaborate with global colleagues in sales, sales operations, editorial, marketing, production, and other key business functions across the academic lists and across Bloomsbury as required
  • Meet with key clients to maintain and grow commercial relationships, negotiate and close deals, and identify and evaluate new sales opportunities
  • Represent the company through key account visits, conferences, presentations, and industry events as appropriate
  • Liaise as needed with our distribution partner, ensuring optimization of sales operations, including fulfillment and customer service
  • Encourage innovation within the sales team, continually refining and improving workflows and processes that lead to greater efficiency and sales optimization
Requirements
  • The successful candidate will hold a B.A. and have a minimum of 10 years of related experience with sales and sales management—ideally in academic markets – in addition to experience with Amazon and other national accounts including, but not limited to, Ingram, Baker + Taylor, EBSCO, and Clarivate. 
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Advanced analytical and Excel skills
  • Some travel

Location

Preference is given to candidates who reside in the New York tri-state area and can commute to Bloomsbury USA’s New York City office on a hybrid schedule. Remote candidates in the following states will be considered: CA, CO, FL, GA, IL, MI, MN, NC, NH, OR, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, WI

Salary Description
$120,000 - $125,000/yr
