POSITION SUMMARY

Manufacturing Technicians at ASI perform hands-on electro-mechanical assembly and light fabrication tasks typically associated with the production and installation of simulation and training devices, or device modification kits, that are installed throughout the U.S. and abroad. There is a broad spectrum of skills required to produce, install, and/or modify simulation devices. A single Manufacturing Technician is not expected to possess all skills necessary to produce a complete device but is expected to be an integral part of a team that does. Most tasks can be categorized as requiring an Manufacturing Technician that has either electrical assembly skills, mechanical fabrication/assembly skills or painting skills. This vacancy announcement is for a Manufacturing Technician that specializes in mechanical fabrication. 



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Tasks are typically defined as build-to-print, using engineering drawings and associated lists combined with instructions documented on Job Tickets, Work Instructions, Installation Plans, etc.
  2. Read and understand mechanical fabrication and assembly engineering drawings and parts lists. 
  3. Perform light fabrication using hand tools and/or prototype fabrication machinery/equipment (ex: shear, punch press, press brake, saws, mill, lathe, welder, drill press, surface finishing, and paint) and,
  4. Perform bench sub-assembly, upper-level device assembly, and device installation tasks using hand tools, moving/rigging equipment.



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

ENTRY- 0 to 2 Years

MID- 3-5 Years

SENIOR - 5+ Years


  • Must have some background experience with the production of electrical assemblies (ex: cable assemblies, wired chassis’) or mechanical fabrications/assemblies, preferably in a military production environment.
  • Must possess certification for specialty assembly practices such as soldering (J-STD, IPC), welding (AWS), etc. or be willing to be trained and tested to obtain certifications as required by ASI for skill sets associated with the position.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

The following provides a brief description of the requirements of manufacturing technicians:


Level 1 Technician – This position requires knowledge of reading electrical and mechanical schematics, fabrication of cable assemblies, and working knowledge of tools such as crimpers, wire strippers, and basic mechanical hand tools.


Level 2 Technician – This position requires knowledge of reading electrical and mechanical schematics, fabrication of cable assemblies, interconnect panels, soldering skills, which is in conformance with IPC-610 standards. Also, fabrication of panels, control linkages, and electronic cabinets.


Level 3 Technician – This position requires knowledge of reading electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and system schematics, trouble shooting skills related to flight simulation, and some basic software knowledge associated with the setup of I/O systems in flight simulations, fabrication of cable assemblies, interconnect panels, soldering skills which is in conformance with IPC-610 standards, and in the operation of oscilloscopes, multimeters, and logic analyzers. Also, light machining and fabrication of panels, control linkages, and electronic cabinets.



PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  1. Proficiency in common business software (Microsoft Office – Word, Outlook, Power Point, Excel, Visio, SharePoint)
  2. Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external customers
  3. Experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
  4. Ability to work in a project-oriented, fast paced environment to meet deadlines in both collaborative settings and independently.



EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

High School Diploma or Equivalent required.



EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

  1. Candidate must provide own basic hand tools that include, but may not be limited to, basic screwdriver set (small to large; Phillips, Flat, and/or Universal), Ratchets (1/4" & 3/8"), Sockets (SAE & Metric; 1/4" & 3/8"; Wrenches (SAE & Metric), Calipers (Calibrated), Flush Cuts, Various Pliers, Tape Measure, Hammer (any variety), Scissors and Exacto Knife).
  2. Due to contractual requirements must be a United States Citizen
  3. Must be able to pass an initial background check.
  4. Must be able to obtain and maintain an active Department of Defense security clearance. Employee/selected candidate will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information (as required)
  5. Must be able and willing to travel (CONUS/OCONUS)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Required to talk and hear.
  2. Required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel, and to manipulate keys on a keyboard.
  3. Required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  4. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
  5. Work at heights of up to 20’ with appropriate safety gear
  6. Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds on a regular basis and may be required to life up to 50 pounds on occasion.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  1. Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment. 
  2. Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but is not limited to eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots, and hardhats. Loose-fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted.
  3. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud in an open bay manufacturing area.
  4. The nature of the work requires a high degree of teamwork and cooperation with other members of the staff as well as external customers.
  5. Hours of work may vary depending on business needs.
