Part-time K-5 Art Teacher

SUMMARY


Ideal candidates will have experience and/or a background teaching Elementary Art (ceramics, drawing, painting). This is a part-time position (approximately 50% time). Preference will be given to candidates who have previous teaching experience. 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • All faculty members are Christians, actively seeking to become like Christ, spending time in His Word, in worship, in fellowship, and service, applying His Truth to all areas of life as a living example for students. This also includes guiding students toward becoming more like Christ, encouraging them that their creativity is from God, and inspiring them to develop their skills to reveal and bring glory to Him.  The art class is a part-time teaching position, with class sizes ranging from 16-20 children.  
  • Overview of instruction hours: Teaching hours are approximately 12:00 PM to 2:30 PM, with prep time 30 minutes before and after.  Supervision of student lunch approximately 2 times per week from 11:30 PM to 12:00 PM, before teaching assignment begins.  Faculty meetings are every Monday from 3:15 PM to 4:15 PM, with participation mandatory for the benefit of the teacher.  
  • General Art is taught to grades K-5, with classes coming for 45-minute periods once or twice per week. The teacher is responsible for lesson planning for all grades and quarterly progress reports. Art class is developmentally appropriate for grades K-5. Techniques and processes used within creating art are based upon the elements of art and principles of design, with an emphasis on biblical integration across a wide range of creative mediums. Drawing, painting, ceramics, fiber arts, and various other media are a portion of the curriculum. Participation in the regional Art Festival and All School Art Show is included.
  • Interacts with students as individuals compassionately and professionally. Guides students into becoming mature, thoughtful, responsible, compassionate young adults that reflect the heart of Jesus. Creates high expectations for learning while also taking into account students' individual challenges.  
  • Participates fully in the life of the school in terms of academics (provides high quality instruction); professionalism and professional development; fulfilling our mission (Christ follower, classical education, and within a covenantal community); and school culture (mentoring, modeling, engaging in collaboration and covenantal relationships); and supporting all members of the school community.
