We are seeking a highly skilled Director of Medical Coding to oversee our coding department. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of medical coding procedures and regulations, as well as experience managing a team of coders. The Director of Medical Coding will be responsible for ensuring that all medical coding is accurate and compliant with industry standards as well as assist in providing educational training and understanding to physicians, mid-levels, clinical personnel, and revenue cycle teams. Effective communication skills both verbal and written. The ability to confidently speak with providers and clinical team members is a must.


Responsibilities

  • Follows the direction of the Chief Revenue Officer regarding all assigned coding duties.
  • Oversee the daily operations of the medical coding department.
  • Ensure that all medical coding is accurate and compliant with industry standards.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for the medical coding department.
  • Train and mentor medical coders to ensure they are up to date on the latest coding procedures and regulations.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure that medical coding is integrated into the overall healthcare process.
  • Monitor coding trends and identify areas for improvement.
  • Ensure that all coding is completed in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate records of all coding activities.
  • Provide education/training to providers, clinical team members, coding team members and other individuals on the revenue cycle team.
  • Assist in the development, documentation, and maintenance of an effective coding educational program.
  • Conduct meetings with physicians and mid-level providers to include chart reviews, coding reviews for over/under coding patterns, coding patterns in general, and code specific revenue enhancement opportunities.
  • May assist with new on-boarding of providers on new physician audits, documentation review, spot auditing and coding accuracy.
  • Provide coding education regarding orthopedic ancillary services, modifiers, and bundling of services.
  • Travel within middle TN is required to complete provider feedback meetings and new provider training.
  • Provide on-going education to providers on ICD-10, CPT & HCPCS coding systems.
  • Develop standards and guidelines for medical record documentation including reporting on deficiencies and training to remediate.
  • Coordinate with Compliance Manager on coding documentation issues as needed.
Requirements

  

Among the qualifications for our Director of Medical Coding:

  • 5+ years of coding team managerial experience with extensive knowledge of ICD-10, CPT-4, and HCPCS II coding systems.
  • Certification/Licensure: CPC or CCS-P certification or equivalent along with maintenance of continuing education requirements.
  • Experience conducting coding education to coding staff, physicians, and mid-level providers.
  • Team-oriented and adaptable
  • Problem-solving skills
