Description


Bishop LeBlond High School, serving scholars in grades nine through twelve, is a Catholic, college preparatory school providing a quality education by embracing academic excellence and promoting social and spiritual growth. Bishop LeBlond is the high school campus of the St. Joseph Catholic Academy located in St. Joseph, MO. Bishop LeBlond serves over 150 scholars in grades 9-12. Bishop LeBlond is a member of the Midland Empire Conference.


The job of a basketball coach is to design and implement the program's activities following applicable rules and regulations related to the sport; oversee assistant coaches, student managers, and /or volunteers; provide supervision of student athletes during all aspects of the program; using sound instructional techniques in overseeing program activities; serving as a positive role model to student athletes. This job reports to the Athletic Director


Responsibilities

  • Realize and appreciate the need for the basketball program to work with other sports as a complement to the entire athletic department.
  • Support and uphold the Bishop LeBlond mission.
  • Provide instruction and coach students to develop skills and the ability to excel in basketball.
  • Contribute to the educational program as a whole and to the growth of students involved in athletics so that they are successfully competitive.
  • Use a variety of instructional techniques to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student-athletes in basketball.
  • Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect, and good sportsmanship.
  • Work with other members of school staff to plan and put in place instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of student-athletes.
  • Ensures that all basketball coaches work together toward a common goal.
  • Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate students' athletic abilities initially and regularly.
  • Take all necessary precautions to protect student-athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extra-curricular participation.
  • Work with the athletic director to schedule competitions and coordinate arrangements.
  • Always encourage sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation.
  • Establish and maintain open communication with parents, students, teachers, athletic director, and principal.

Requirements

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Missouri State Teaching Certificate (preferred, but not required)
  • Sports First Aid Training
  • CPR Training
  • Practicing Catholic in good standing is preferred, but not required.
