Westside Family Healthcare is a nonprofit organization that provides high quality primary medical care without regard to ability to pay. The Breastfeeding Peer Counselor engages pregnant and breastfeeding women as well as their partners and families in discussion and education on the merits of breastfeeding, the risks of not breastfeeding and sustaining a breastfeeding relationship with their infant.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Counsel and educate pregnant and breastfeeding women by telephone, at Westside Family Healthcare, or through other available means
- Receive a caseload of WIC pregnant and breastfeeding clients on a monthly basis and make routine periodic contacts with all clients assigned
- Provide education, support and encouragement to pregnant and breastfeeding mothers
- Give basic breastfeeding information and support to new mothers
- Relay breastfeeding information to WIC pregnant and breastfeeding women
- Remain current on breastfeeding information
- Refer mothers according to clinic-established protocols
- Contact WIC-program pregnant and breastfeeding mothers on a regular basis
- Keep the lactation room neat and clean, appropriately stocks and maintains breastfeeding supplies and equipment
- Report monthly Daily Activity Logs, and Quarterly Activity Logs to WIC
- Organize and plan monthly education session for pregnant women and mothers focusing on breastfeeding and parenting skills
MINIMUM OBJECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED required. College courses, or degree in health related or education related field a plus
- Six months of experience using computers and Microsoft Office software
- At least 12 months of breastfeeding experience
- WIC-eligible-Must complete WIC Breastfeeding Counselor course after hire.
- Six months of experience in community services, counseling, teaching, healthcare or social services
- Fluency in written and spoken English and spoken Spanish preferred.
