Job Purpose

As the Book Development Editor, you play a vital role in maintaining the quality of our book publications through manuscript review, meticulous copyediting, managing ISBN assignments and the CIP process, triaging book publication inquiries, and assisting with orders of our print books. With a diverse record of editorial experiences, you contribute expertise in content development, proofreading, and publication. Your creative thinking and passion for developing ACA Publications make you an indispensable team member, actively engaging in special projects. Your commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and access principles ensures a broad perspective in our publications. Additionally, you provide crucial administrative support through assistance with print book order fulfillment workflow and participating in management of the publications inbox.


Key Responsibilities

  • Uphold quality standards of book publications. 
  • Ensure impeccable copyediting across diverse range of books. 
  • Conduct meticulous line editing for grammar and punctuation. 
  • Review content for cohesive expression of ideas and facts. 
  • Ensure all requisite elements of manuscript are present and properly formatted and adhere to style guidelines for successful typesetting and publication. 
  • Collaborate with Digital Publishing Specialist to address formatting of visual materials. 
  • Collaborate with Director of Publications to check and secure copyright permissions for reused content where not covered by fair use or other exception. 
  • Communicate promptly and helpfully with contributing authors. 
  • Manage ISBN assignment and CIP process. 
  • Support Publishing Operations Manager in order fulfillment tasks. 
  • Engage in special projects as they arise. 
  • Integrate diversity, equity, inclusion, and access principles into work. 
  • Contribute to responding to inquiries in Publications inbox. 
  • Demonstrate proactive and collaborative approach within team. 
Requirements


  • Bachelor’s Degree in English or equivalent. 
  • 5+ years performing editorial support functions including developmental editing, copyediting, proofreading, and content development. 
  • Mastery of APA or the Chicago Manual of Style and the ability to apply other style manuals. 
  • Proficiency in the full suite of Microsoft Office applications 
  • Creative thinker who embraces new ideas and is passionate about developing the potential of ACA Publications. 

Location & Flexibility:  Hybrid.
