Position Title  IT (Information Technology)  & POS (Point of Sale) Specialist 

Compensation  $47K-$60K DOE to start, 20% store discount, accrued Paid Time Off, eligible for company benefits after 90 days

Status Exempt, salaried

Hours Full-time, 40+ hours/week - may include days, nights, overnights, and weekends

Work Location Hybrid - No less than 3 days onsite

Job Summary The IT & POS Specialist provides end-to-end support for systems and hardware used at Mariposa Food Co-op,  and provides friendly and helpful support for all staff who rely upon these systems and devices. The IT & POS Specialist coordinates with department leaders to help them assess their IT and Point of Sale needs and priorities. As needs arise, the Specialist coordinates with outside contractors for IT work that is beyond the scope of their responsibilities or can be done more efficiently through contracting. The IT & POS Specialist must have exceptional people skills with an open and supportive attitude towards working with a diverse array of staff with varying degrees of technological fluency. This position reports to the Cooperative Executive Officer. 


Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities 

  • Onsite POS & Tech Support
    • Provide troubleshooting support during posted office hours and on-call support during open hours.
    • Onboard new staff as needed: create new email and POS accounts with appropriate levels of access, and introduce staff to various systems as needed. 
    • Work with the Owner Services Coordinator to continuously improve the user experience of the co-op’s owner info database. 
    • Support the buying team with item entry, sales, and inventory.
    • Provide training to staff regarding POS, routine computer use, and specialized programs or hardware. 
    • Install and perform setup and updates for hardware and software. 
    • Respond to staff questions and needs in a timely fashion.
    • Coordinate with management team and staff to re-design workstations and wiring as needed.
  • External POS & Tech Support
    • Coordinate logistics with outside contractors as needed.
    • Communicate with tech support of  POS software regularly to troubleshoot problems as they arise, and to improve configuration of systems as needed. 
    • Coordinate with Facilities Manager for tech management projects that are relevant to both positions (CCTV maintenance/installation, intercom system, store & office phones, etc.)
  • IT & POS Maintenance, Security Checks, and Planning
    • Participate in budget development and maintain operating budgets for IT.
    • Maintain internal office computer systems, Mariposa servers, and backups.
    • Maintain local network & backup network.
    • Coordinate with departmental leadership as needed to improve database management, system customizations, and reconfigurations. 
    • Develop and maintain manuals, policies, and procedures related to IT in accordance with PCI Compliance and other industry standards.
    • Perform routine and randomized checks on staff usage of IT systems and equipment to ensure that policies are being upheld. Coordinate with appropriate managers as needed to hold staff accountable. 
    • Work with Cooperative Executive Officer and HR Manager as needed to perform user reviews as requested.

Requirements

 

Desired Experience, Skills, and Abilities 

  • 3+ years dedicated experience successfully troubleshooting and resolving computer hardware and software systems
  • 3+ years dedicated experience installing, configuring, and maintaining Windows workstations, servers, and ancillary equipment
  • 3+ years experience in a retail or hospitality setting with use, configuration, and maintenance of POS system 
  • Excellent customer service skills are a must! 
  • Must be equally comfortable using, working, and troubleshooting with PC and Apple products
  • Must be fully knowledgeable about standard office and grocery retail  technological equipment such as printers, phones, scanners, UPC scanners, scales, etc. 
  • Proven professional experience with SQL, PHP and HTML
  • Must be able to acquire and retain knowledge in technologies regarding registers, scanning, and associated topics
  • Demonstration of good oral and written communication skills 
  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities and multi-task to develop and produce accurate, professional and error-free documents in a timely manner
  • Ability to operate various standard office equipment
  • Previous experience working in a Food Co-op is a plus
  • Previous experience promoting diversity and accessibility is a plus
  • Ability to participate in group decision making processes, and an interest in using IT to increase transparency and access to shared information is a must
