Physical Education Teacher (Immediate Hire)
Description


Under the supervision of the Principal and the Academics Teams, the Physical Education Teacher will be responsible for leading the students to discover the foundation to live physically fit and healthy lives.  Through a variety of engaging experiences, the Physical Education Teacher will help the students grow in good sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect for self and for others. 


Role and Responsibilities

The duties of the Physical Education Teacher include, but are not limited to the following tasks:


Instruction


  • Providing physical education instruction to students in middle/ high school
  • Developing balanced physical education that emphasizes good sportsmanship, spirit and enthusiasm, teamwork, and respect for self and for others 
  • Designing lessons that engage students and support core content 
  • Helping students to live physically fit and healthy lives 
  • Utilizing different French activities that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of the pupils
  • Supporting school-wide instructional initiatives 
  • Remaining current with Louisiana Standards and other instructional requirements
  • Establishing and maintaining standards of student behavior to provide for an orderly, productive environment during classes.

Assessment 


  • Assessing each student’s growth, performance and comprehension of physical education concepts
  • Maintaining updated grade books, tracking student progress, drafting reports when requested 


Other Duties


  • Effectively communicating with school administrators, teachers, student service personnel, parents regarding student performance and plans for improvement 
  • Participating in faculty meetings and professional learning communities meetings
  • Attending Professional Development sessions
  • Assisting in orientation, open houses and other after school events as needed
  • Modeling nondiscriminatory practices in all activities
  • Producing performance-based activities to support school initiatives
  • Preparing students for any seasonal programs, or other special events
  • Maintaining an inventory, controlling the storage and use of department property, and overseeing the working condition of said equipment.
  • Performing other job related functions as may be assigned
  • Being punctual

Requirements

Expectations, Educational Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Flexibility and a team-spirit work ethic
  • Well developed interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of, and appreciation for Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support (PBIS)
  • Strong classroom management skills

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Louisiana Certification in physical education 
  • Proficiency in French
  • Experience in physical education instruction in an elementary, middle, or secondary school setting
  • Three or more years teaching experience 
  • Experience in differentiating instruction, and supporting students with learning challenges
