On-Call Technical Director
Description

The on-call technical director oversees the technical operations of the Wheaton Academy Fine Arts Center for outside rental groups.  Duties and responsibilities include the following:


  1. Operates, maintains and safeguards the technical assets of the WA Fine Arts Center during outside rental events.  This includes supervising the use of lighting, sound, video and communications equipment and the stage facilities
  2. Determines the necessary technical supports, such as lighting, sound, staging, and special needs, necessary for outside rental events and performances presented at the FAC in advance of production dates.
  3. Serves as main point of contact for facility renters during the rental event.
  4. Orients facility renters and visiting productions to safety, technical characteristics and other areas of facility operations
  5. Supervises student technical staff during individual rentals.
  6. Attends technical week rehearsals, sound checks, and all performances, in order to supervise and assist in the technical aspects of the mounting the show.
  7. Monitors the condition of equipment including lighting, sound, video and rigging equipment; Informs Wheaton Academy if any equipment repair is needed.
Requirements

The on-call technical director accepts without verbal or mental reservations the Educational Philosophy and Mission of Wheaton Academy as outlined in the Statement of Faith and is committed to upholding them. The this person shall follow a Christian lifestyle and shall maintain a Christian church affiliation whose fundamental beliefs are in alignment with the Statement of Faith of this school. This person affirms that, as part of the qualifications for this position, he/she is a "born again" Christian who knows the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior.


The ideal candidate has 1-3 years of technical directing experience.   This person must have a thorough understanding of all aspects involved in technical theater, including construction, lighting equipment, rigging and sound.  People and time management skills are a must, as are a focus on safety.
