SUMMARY 

The Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting the accounting functions to meet the administrative needs of the organization.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  

  • Prepare monthly budget reports for Program Lead. 
  • Prepare invoices for private grants and state grants receivable. 
  • Monitors accounts receivable to include private grants receivable, and outstanding reimbursements from public agencies. 
  • Records payments from donors, major funders, and state and federal governments. 
  • Assists with the reconciliation of the accounting software records to the donor database. 
  • Assists with routine requests for supporting documentation from all funders, private and public. 
  • Initiate weekly accounts payable check run. 
  • Record manual checks and bank drafts in accounting software. 
  • Assist with preparation for the year-end audits and ad hoc monitoring reviews. 
  • Other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Requirements

 

Required Skills/Abilities: 

  • Understanding of and ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles. 
  • Ability to adhere to strict deadlines. 
  • Highly proficient with accounting software, preferably Blackbaud. 
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.  
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software. 

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE: 

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related discipline required.  
  • Nonprofit accounting experience required. 
  • Three to five years of accounting experience required. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

  • While performing duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. 
  • The employee is frequently required to use hands. 
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
