We are growing and seeking an individual who is located in the central or north Alabama area to join our Field Service Team. We are seeking a self-starter, who is willing to learn and develop a career, while helping us serve our customers in Central and North Alabama. As a field technician, you can expect to work in a variety of environments, primarily focused on emergency response facilities and locations where emergency response vehicles are stationed.


Our technicians have backgrounds in heavy highway trucks, heavy equipment, farm equipment, material handling equipment, automotive, and heavy marine.

Requirements

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Perform inspections, maintenance, and repairs on fire apparatus and related equipment.
  • Conduct diagnostic tests and troubleshooting to identify and resolve mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Repair or replace defective components, such as pumps, hoses, valves, and electrical systems.
  • Install and upgrade equipment, including radios, sirens, and lighting systems.
  • Test and calibrate fire apparatus systems to ensure they meet safety and performance standards.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance tasks, including lubrication, fluid changes, and filter replacements.
  • Keep accurate records of work performed, parts used, and equipment serviced.
  • Provide training and support to fire department personnel on the proper use and maintenance of fire apparatus.
  • Respond to emergency calls and perform on-site repairs and troubleshooting.
  • Stay up to date with advancements in fire apparatus technology and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and supervisors to optimize maintenance schedules and prioritize repairs.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines during all repair and maintenance activities.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including tools, equipment, and service vehicles.
  • Maintain inventory of spare parts, tools, and equipment necessary for repairs and maintenance.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and fire department personnel regarding repair status and recommendations.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of fire apparatus systems, including pumps, hoses, valves, electrical systems, and hydraulic systems.
  • Proficiency in diagnostic tools and equipment used for troubleshooting and repairing fire apparatus.
  • Understanding of safety protocols and procedures related to fire apparatus maintenance and repair.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations, codes, and standards related to fire apparatus and emergency response vehicles.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, diagrams, and schematics related to fire apparatus.
  • Skilled in conducting preventive maintenance tasks, including fluid changes, filter replacements, and lubrication.
  • Proficient in using hand and power tools necessary for repairs and installations on fire apparatus.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to identify and resolve mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with fire department personnel and customers.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team to complete repair and maintenance tasks.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in documenting work performed and parts used.
  • Time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Physical strength and stamina to perform manual labor, including lifting heavy equipment and working in tight spaces.
  • Continuous learning mindset to stay updated with advancements in fire apparatus technology and industry trends.

Qualifications, Education, and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED, required
  • Completion of a recognized vocational or technical training program in automotive technology, heavy equipment, or a related field, preferred
  • EVT certifications from a recognized organization, such as the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) or the Emergency Vehicle Technician Certification Commission (EVTCC), preferred.

Travel: 90% travel with some overnight stays as required.
