The League of Women Voters of the United States (LWVUS, the League) is a nonpartisan political organization that has fought for more than 100 years to improve American systems of government and impact public policies through citizen education, advocacy, and litigation. The enduring vitality and resonance of the League as a trusted force for change and good government comes from its unique decentralized structure: a national organization with strong partnerships at the grassroots level with more than 700 state and local Leagues across the country including the District of Columbia. At the national level, League activities are coordinated and staffed by two distinct but complementary organizations: The League of Women Voters of the United States (LWVUS) and the League of Women Voters Education Fund (LWVEF).


POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Regional Field Organizer (West) will be part of the dynamic Organizing Department. This person will play an important role in supporting the development and implementation of the organizing and campaign strategies with a group of States, centering people and voters, to build power at the Local, State and National level to advance and secure transformational wins on voting rights and the election process in this country on our journey to create a more equitable, accessible, and participatory democracy for all. 


Key components of the job include working with League affiliates and with national staff to develop and implement organizing and campaigns priorities to create base-building and political organizing strategies to reach political/policy outcomes in specific issue areas; develop and support new and current leaders; and to create a connection between national issue campaigns and local activities.


This position reports to the National Organizing Manager.


Note: This is one-year contractual position with the potential of extension determined by available funding and performance. 


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and execute organizing and campaign field plans with a group of States to grow LWV’s membership, power, and engagement with communities within the New American Majority, especially communities of color and  young people, to advance voting rights and transform our election process.
  • Build strong, trusted, and authentic relationships with League leaders.  
  • Identify and develop strong relationships and regular communication with key organizations, allies, coalitions, and community leaders.
  • Work across departments to ensure that organizing and campaign goals complement other campaign and organizational goals, including other regional organizers, Comms, Advocacy and Litigation, Mission Impact, External Affairs, among others.
  • Implement online and offline strategies to help LWV achieve campaign, legislative, advocacy, and program wins.
  • Support expansion of state and local League digital, including digital relational organizing through League in Action (OutreachCircle), and in-person activities to meet organizational goals.
  • Recruit, train, and manage volunteers at the state and local levels to advance organizing and campaign work. 
  • Develop organizing and campaign materials to train volunteers, leaders, and partners using popular education methodologies.
  • Provide regular data and narrative reports on progress (metrics, efforts and impact).   
  • Perform other duties as assigned.  
Requirements

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS: 

Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or comparable experience


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: 

  • Minimum of 3-years’ experience in community, labor, issue  or political organizing, campaigns, or leadership development, including an understanding of community organizing      principles. 
  • Ability to develop trainings and resources to train-the-trainers and leaders. 
  • Experience implementing, monitoring, and assessing campaign and/or field plans.  
  • Experience developing and driving calls to action. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong attention to detail, and excellent people skills. 
  • Ability to engage diverse communities in an authentic way.  
  • Familiarity with voting rights, election reform, electoral college, and voter engagement is preferred. 
  • Previous campaign experience a plus.
  • Willingness and availability to travel; have a valid driver’s license. 
  • Experience working with Office 365, Salsa-Engage, Salesforce, and/or NGP VAN is a plus.

LOCATION

The League of Women Voters US is based in Washington, DC. This is a remote position. Candidates considered for this role must live in the West coast region of the United States.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

The salary for this position is $65,000, for a one-year term with the option to renew based upon performance and funding. We have a generous benefits package that includes 95 percent employer –sponsored health insurance, dental and vision insurance, paid holidays, vacation days, sick days, pre-tax transit benefits, and the opportunity to contribute to a 401(K) plan.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The person in this position is primarily sedentary and needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery. The person must also be available to travel and walk longer distances to offices and events. Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, computer, and computer printer.
