UAP collaborates with emerging and renowned artists, architects, developers, and designers to deliver creative outcomes for the public realm. We engage in all aspects of the delivery process from curatorial services and design development, through to fabrication and installation. 


Objective:  The Designer will be responsible for designing and developing 3D sculptures and completing fabrication files and drawings to support manufacturing. The focus will be largely on 3D sculpted and printed or milled patterns for casting but will also include fabricated works and fabricated supporting elements. 


Key responsibilities:

  • design sculpture patterns, from early sculpting and scanning phases through production oversight.
  • create technical drawings for shop build and/or subcontractor fabrication based on designer drawings, layouts, and other visual aids
  • design and engineer custom solutions to challenging engineering problems to meet specific requirements of diverse project-based applications
  • complete detailed assembly/installation drawings for use by professional installers/contractors
  • research and specify materials and hardware required to execute the project at hand
  • work closely with, project managers, production managers, and consultant teams to coordinate design development and casting and fabrication methodologies
  • understand capabilities of machining and fabrication via the UAP shop and subcontractors
  • communicate with the client as well as their creative and supervisory staff during the design and construction phases of the project
  • provide details to procurement department to aid in part and vendor selection
  • help monitor quality control and maintain a high level of expectation for the work being made
  • have an eye for design aesthetic
  • build library of knowledge of previous designs
Requirements
  • bachelor’s degree or above in fine arts, industrial design, technical design, engineering, and/or equivalent experience
  • minimum 2 years of relevant experience in design/fabrication/documentation/sculpting
  • modeling and drafting experience in Rhino required 
  • modeling experience in Z-Brush required 
  • SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor, and AutoCAD encouraged 
  • good understanding of 3D printing and scanning applications and techniques
  • solid knowledge of various fabrication techniques
  • sound knowledge of mechanical design and problem-solving ability
  • able to work under pressure and with minimum supervision
  • high-level problem-solving skills and a demonstrated ability to multitask through multiple projects.
  • appreciation, interest and engagement in art and design

Salary Description
$60,000 - $85,000
