Hourigan has an opening for a collaborative and energetic individual to serve as our Regional Safety Manager. Reporting to the Corporate Safety Director, this position will lead Hourigan’s Safety and Health Management System, manage and ensure compliance, and promote a safety-first mindset across the organization.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide safety leadership and set an example of following all safe work practices and procedures
  • Assist in the creation and implementation of Hourigan’s corporate safety strategy, programs, and initiatives
  • Actively involved in incident and near miss investigations in respective region
  • Conduct routine jobsite visits and inspections; document and share findings as well as lessons learned with the team and management
  • Monitor and communicate developments in government and industry safety rules and regulations
  • Assist with the development of compliance strategies related to environment, health, and safety laws and regulatory requirements
  • Actively involved in regulatory inspections and investigations; receive and coordinate the regulators visit
  • Maintain workplace safety records including OSHA required documentation, logs, and posting
  • Track and monitor organizational safety trends and assist with developing and implementing corrective actions
  • Create and review safety trainings and materials; coordinate and conduct trainings across the organization
  • Conduct safety orientations for all new hires and others as needed
  • Assist the Corporate Safety Director with interviewing and hiring safety personnel
  • Manage a small team of employees, providing oversight, direction, and mentoring in accordance to Hourigan’s policies and procedures
  • Promote and implement a proactive and positive safety culture
  • Participate in safety and industry seminars, networking, and committees
  • Provide resources and support to ensure positive safety and health outcomes in line with the Hourigan SHMS.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • BS in Safety and Health or related degree, and/or equivalent experience
  • 15+ years of experience in Environment, Health, and Safety in a Commercial Construction environment is preferred
  • OSHA 30, OSHA 510, and OSHA 500 certifications are required
  • CSP, CHST, or similar professional certification is preferred
  • Knowledgeable of construction safety principles, techniques, and methods
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of OSHA and Virginia Department of Environmental Quality laws, regulations, and policies
  • Must possess the ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and speaking
  • Excellent organizational, supervisory, decision making, and problem solving skills are essential
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Work, Power Point, Project, etc.)
  • Applies a customer-centric mindset to all work efforts
