Part-time K-5 Academic Support Teacher

SUMMARY


We are seeking a part-time K-5 Academic Support Teacher for reading, writing, and math; this is not a special education teacher. This teacher will work both one-on-one and in small groups with students requiring assistance to help achieve fluency and independence.  The ideal candidate is an experienced Kinder, 1st, or 2nd grade teacher possessing knowledge of and experience in teaching elementary students with learning challenges in reading and math. This position is 16-20 hours per week during the morning only. 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Communicate and interact with core teachers and parents, and provide updates on student progress and performance
  • Track students’ weekly progress in reading fluency and phonics skills
  • Teach a small group 5th grade math class, utilizing our Saxon math curriculum
  • Will “pull out” and “push in”, tutoring students who are struggling academically
  • Must be organized and efficient with time management, building a tutoring schedule around the needs of the primary teachers and within the boundaries of the morning hours
Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • College degree required, with Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Education strongly preferred
  • Experience teaching phonics reading instruction is required. 
  • Experience teaching using classical techniques is strongly preferred.  
  • Ability to teach 5th grade math to a small group from a set curriculum is required.
