Description

The service support staff at Crux Fermentation Project play an important role in providing the highest level of hospitality. They are highly proficient in the skill set of organizing, cleaning, and practicing efficient sanitation service. There are three facets to the FOH SS: greeting and seating guests, assisting servers and bartenders with bussing and resetting tables, and assisting servers and bartenders running food and beverages (and any other tasks assigned by the management team). The FOH SS team provides excellent hospitality to all guests and represents the positive culture of Crux Fermentation Project.

It is essential that all members of the front of House Support Staff are proficient at all three areas listed above as these positions will be interchangeable, as well as a training platform for advancing into serving or bartending positions.


Started in 2012, Crux brews about 16,000 barrels of beer a year and now makes cider and whiskey, too. The Portland location is in the old dairy building on SE Eighth Avenue south of the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS Front of House Support Staff (Performed with or without reasonable accommodation)

Greeting and Seating

  • Set-up and close-down the pub front desk by assigned check lists
  • Immediately acknowledge and greet guests with a smile when they enter the pub
  • Manage the wait list and provide appropriate wait times for customers
  • Efficiently seat guests
  • Communicate with managers, servers and kitchen staff with current seating counts, wait times, etc.
  • Keep the front desk area clean and organized; menus are current and clean, etc.

Server and bartender assistance

  • Efficiently assist servers pre-bussing and bussing tables
  • Properly clean and sanitize all tables, chairs and floor area before re-seating tables
  • Return dirty glassware to the bar, and dishes to the dish room per established SOPs
  • Communicate with the front desk updating tables status, etc.
  • Assist bartenders with glassware
  • Assist servers and bartenders restocking glassware, service stations, etc.

Food and beverage running

  • Assist servers and bartenders running food and drinks to tables
  • Know position points on all tables for proper delivery of items without asking
  • Keep the expo area clean and organized at all times
  • Communicate with the kitchen, management and front of house staff throughout the shift to keep the flow of products seamless

General job duties

  • Keep Hospitality at the forefront of your mind at all times
  • Know our food menu and ingredients
  • Know the beer menu and pay attention to the color of the beer. Understand beer styles. Read the beer sheets and develop a knowledge of our beers on tap
  • Attend educational and training meetings
  • Operate with the full hands in and full hands out motto
  • Develop a complete knowledge of the history of the brewery and owners
  • Pay attention to visually intoxicated persons and communicate to all service staff. Know and use the tools in watching for and identifying visually intoxicated people
  • Arrive on time and ready to work. Ready to work is checking in with the lead on duty and other staff to know where you are needed first.
  • Attend pre-shift meetings
  • Any other duties as assigned by Management

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Front of House Support Staff

  • Food Service or other guest facing experience, preferably with a Brewery-restaurant

JOB REQUIREMENTS Front of House Support Staff

  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States
  • Certifications: OLCC Service Permit, Oregon Food Handler
  • Drug Free
  • Reliable transportation for work
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evening, weekends, and holidays

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Front of House Support Staff

  • Must be able to perform simple grasping, fine manipulation, and repetitive hand and arm movements frequently
  • Must be able to bend, squat, crawl, kneel, push, pull, and walk on uneven surfaces on an occasional basis
  • While primarily an indoor job, must be able to walk outside in a variety of weather conditions (rain, wind, snow, heat)
  • Must be able to work in hot, cold, and wet environments
  • Must be able to lift 25-40 lbs.
