Description

SUMMARY

The primary function of this position is to build and set up company service vehicles. Keep fleet running, perform necessary service, preventative maintenance, repairs, replacements, installations, or re-building of components including fabrication, small engines, transfer pumps, lighting, power inverters making hydraulic hoses, welding etc.


JOB DESCRIPTION

The Van Build technician will work under the supervision of the Shop Foreman to build or inspect and assess needed repairs to service vans or trucks. You will be required to coordinate with Technicians for service vehicle repairs and maintenance. You will make schedules, keep logs to complete all work within an allotted timeline, and inspect each job for proper/safe operation prior to release. Travel to techs on site to do equipment repairs and service.

SKILLS/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage work and shop area to keep clean and safe in compliance with all safety policies and 5s.
  • Complete all paperwork for TMHS, keep up with inventory and supplies to do the job as well as make decisions with little supervision.
  • Use manuals, repair manuals, parts manuals, parts diagrams to troubleshoot small engines, engine fuel systems, pumps or other components on Technicians vans or trucks. Maintain shop boards during building steps.
  • Competent use of meters, measuring devices & computers to do paperwork keep up with time. Maintain and schedule equipment maintenance as required to ensure fleet stays up and running.
  • Use plasma cutter and welder and hand & power tools to fabricate, remove, install, replace, re-build, repair & test parts/equipment on engines, engine fuel systems, and other components.
  • Safely use lift trucks, overhead cranes, & other aids to lift or move parts into position to be repaired. 
  • Use miscellaneous resources & computers to reference parts, get information about parts & enter data.
  • Climb up onto, under, & into vehicles, use hand & power tools to disassemble/ reassemble sheet metal, small engines, fuel systems, & air compressors & pumps or other parts or equipment.
  • Assist in building maintenance and housekeeping projects.
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs. (and occasionally in excess of 75 lbs.), climb ladders and go under vehicles.

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

2-5 years’ experience 


EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

High School Diploma or equivalent

Must be a Certified Forklift Operator

Must have/maintain good driving record 


WORK CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work is performed in a maintenance shop environment with potential exposure to moving mechanical parts, dust, fumes, chemicals, or solvents which require proper knowledge of safety procedures. Must have the physical ability to perform continuously with full body motion for climbing, reaching, pushing, and lifting. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs. (and occasionally in excess of 75 lbs.). The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
