Reporting to the Senior Vice President and the MLG Technology/Data Committee, the Business Intelligence Analyst plays a pivotal role in advancing MLG Capital’s commitment to delivering exceptional experiences for both internal and external stakeholders. This role will lead the expansion of our BI reporting capabilities, leveraging our newly established cloud-based data warehouse. This position offers an exciting opportunity for an individual with strong critical thinking skills, and an experienced background in data analysis & development, to take ownership of internal and external reporting initiatives within our organization.

The position will require working across various business lines, gathering reporting requirements, and developing solutions. This individual will be instrumental in meeting the evolving data needs of our organization. As part of this role, the BI Analyst will also play a lead role in designing and implementing data visualizations to enhance data-driven decision-making across the organization. This individual will be a pro in Microsoft Power BI (Dax).


Essential Functions:

  • Elicit/evaluate business reporting requirements for various business units
  • Coordinate/facilitate efforts between business users and technical teams
  • Develop reports or visualizations to accommodate requirements
  • Assist in new & ongoing development, specifically QA of data warehouse/data lake
  • Create/execute/document tasks associated to generate recurring and ad-hoc reporting requests
  • Create autonomous processes to generate quarterly reporting on funds, assets and managed accounts across organization
  • Develop visualizations, dashboards, and reports using Power BI, Excel, Access, and possibly SQL/Python/Tableau
  • Extract insights through data and identify trends through data analysis
  • Create process & procedure documentation for all tasks
  • Assist in troubleshooting technical issues
  • Collaborate with Data Engineer to incorporate new data models for the data warehouse/data lake
  • Assist in creating user documentation such as data dictionary library, user guides, etc.

Requirements


  • 5+ years of Power BI experience heavily preferred, 3+ year's experience required
  • Financial, private equity, private real estate or investment management industry experience heavily preferred
  • BS in Information Systems, Computer Science, Mathematics, Finance, or other related technical degree

Required Skills:

  • Expert proficiency in Power BI: Demonstrated expertise in using Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service for data modeling, creating reports, and building dashboards.
  • Data Modeling Skills: Ability to design and implement efficient data models using Power BI's data modeling capabilities, including relationships, calculated columns, and measures.
  • DAX (Data Analysis Expressions): Strong understanding of DAX language for creating calculated columns, measures, and complex calculations within Power BI reports.
  • Data Transformation: Experience in data preparation and transformation using Power Query Editor within Power BI Desktop, including data cleaning, shaping, and merging from various data sources.
  • Requirements gathering: Ability to elicit requirements from business users, manage expectations, coordinate technical items with Data Team
  • SQL Knowledge: Understanding of SQL (Structured Query Language) for querying and manipulating data from relational databases, as Power BI often interacts with databases for data retrieval.
  • Data Visualization: Proficiency in designing visually appealing and effective data visualizations such as charts, graphs, and maps within Power BI to convey insights to end-users.
  • ETL (Extract, Transform, Load): Familiarity with ETL processes and tools for extracting data from different sources, transforming it to fit the reporting requirements, and loading it into Power BI.
  • Performance Optimization: Ability to optimize Power BI reports and dashboards for performance, including improving query performance, reducing data refresh times, and optimizing visualizations for faster rendering.
  • Power BI Service Administration: Knowledge of managing and administering Power BI Service, including publishing reports, configuring data gateways, setting up security roles, and managing data refresh schedules.
  • Integration with Other Tools: Experience in integrating Power BI with other Microsoft products such as Azure services (e.g., Azure Data Lake, Azure SQL Database) and Office 365 applications (e.g., SharePoint, Teams).
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Strong problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and resolve issues encountered during development and deployment of Power BI solutions.
  • Version Control: Familiarity with version control systems like Git for managing changes to Power BI reports and collaborating with team members on development projects.

Preferred Skills:

  • Salesforce reporting (lightning, analytics (formerly tableau)) a plus
  • Tableau experience a plus
  • Data Factory, Azure Cloud DW and Fivetran experience a plus
  • SQL, Python, VB, web scraping experience a plus

Physical Requirements: Ability to operate office machinery, including telephone, computer, copy machine, fax machine, printer, and mobile phone. Ability to travel via automobile or airplane to real estate locations, if needed.


Working Conditions: Open office workstation environment, moderate to quiet noise levels. Our corporate headquarters is in Brookfield, WI and this hire is highly preferred to work at HQ.
