The Infection Control Coordinator is accountable for the Infection Control Program which is incorporated in the Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI) Program. This position is well-versed on infection control procedures and monitors the efficacy of the infection control program at all OCR surgery centers with the goal to prevent, control and investigate infectious and communicable diseases.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintains a safe and sanitary environment.
  • Develops, documents and implements infection control measures related to personnel.
  • Uses active surveillance to mitigate risks associated with patient infections present upon admission. Mitigates risks associated with healthcare-associated infections. This includes identifying problems, collecting data to find out causes, and investigating solutions.
  • Monitors compliance with policies, procedures, protocols and other infection control requirements.
  • Plans evaluations and revisions when indicated.
  • Coordinates, as required by law with federal, state and local emergency preparedness and health authorities to address communicable and infectious disease threats and outbreaks.
  • Ensures compliance with reportable disease requirements of the local health authority.
  • Traces factors that contribute to infection problems.
  • Conducts education programs for personnel who influence infection control (i.e., circulator, scrub nurse/technician, instrument technician, etc.).
  • Coordinates and conducts infection control activities.
  • Provides essential information necessary to maintain infection control standards.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to look at new ideas and work in a changing environment.
  • Understands, verbalizes and participates in the quality improvement process.
  • Makes recommendations for determining facility policies and procedures relative to infection control. 
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Associates Degree from an accredited Registered Nursing (RN) program.
  • Three years of ambulatory surgery clinical experience as a registered nurse with additional training in infection control, required.
  • Valid Colorado Registered Nurse (RN) license. Must provide proof of license and be in good standing.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and willing to travel to multiple locations. 

Physical Requirements 

  • The work environment is a typical medical office environment. The employee must be able to complete their work satisfactorily in an environment where there are significant distractions, including staff, patients, and vendors walking through and conversing, telephones ringing, conversations carrying over, loud noises, and interruptions to answer questions from others.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls up to 12 hours per day. The employee frequently is required to talk or hear up to 12 hours per day. The employee is regularly required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl up to 12 hours a day.
  • The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and should do so in a sound and safe manner. The employee will occasionally assist patients in turning (170 lb average); will occasionally assist patient in arising from exam table; will occasionally push wheelchair patients; and occasionally assists patients in arising from and returning to wheelchair or bed.

Salary Description
$33.00 - $46.00/hour, commensurate with experience
