Description

  

The Certified General Appraisal Reviewer is responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate review of or assistance with reviewing appraisal reports and market studies, coordinating comments and requested revisions to appraisal vendors alongside Merchants’ underwriting platforms, and providing timely feedback on appraisal vendors to our 3rd Party Report Analyst who maintains the Approved Vendor List. All reviews and interactions with appraisers should be in accordance with agency and Merchants guidelines. Responsibilities also include but are not limited to participating in developing training schedules and material, as well as advising/assisting originations and underwriting departments regarding questions on value(s) or methodologies within appraisals. 


A successful Certified General Appraisal Reviewer will understand appraisal methodology, including USPAP and FIRREA requirements, and understand the appraisal report within the overall underwriting process. While opportunities for advancement at Merchants vary widely, the individual in this position will gain experience and knowledge that primarily equips them to maintain quality control of appraisal reports for underwriting purposes and risk mitigation.

 

After one year as a Certified General Appraisal Reviewer, you will know you were successful if you… 

  • Analyze and review appraisals and market studies. 
  • Provide solutions to challenges within the various appraisal reports to underwriting and originations. 
  • Review vetting package for new appraisal vendors. 
  • Provide feedback in order to monitor the quality of our approved appraisal vendor list. 
  • Collaborate with supervisor on training schedule, topics, and materials for various Merchants’ platforms. 
  • Advise underwriters and processors on needed market values for various loan products and onboarded deals, including reviewing bid requests when necessary. 
  • Will be required to work overtime hours as needed to meet the needs of the department. 
  • Attend training on applicable subjects when available and appropriate for the position and for maintaining licensure. 
Requirements

  

What we are looking for… 


  • Minimum of five years of appraisal experience. 
  • Requires a Certified General appraiser license. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, real estate, or related field preferred.
