The Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation is looking for a Facilities Tech with skills in multiple construction trades to help maintain and care for one of America’s most important historic architectural sites. The Facilities Tech is a dynamic role responsible for completing maintenance and construction projects in accordance with best practice standards and guidelines for the preservation of an historic site for the buildings and grounds at the 500-acre Taliesin West campus in Scottsdale, AZ. This includes, but is not limited to, routine and deferred maintenance work involving rough and finish carpentry, masonry and concrete repair, troubleshooting and repairing electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems, as well as completing restoration and light construction projects. The Facilities Tech must possess a service-oriented attitude as work supports the Foundation's programs and staff.
• Assists with the day-to-day restoration, light construction, and maintenance of facilities as directed by supervisor.
• Uses a variety of hand and power tools to perform maintenance work within multiple construction trades.
• In collaboration with leaders, assists students with construction projects/student work in the shop.
• Reports need for equipment repairs and equipment replacement.
• Assists with emergency and unscheduled repairs site-wide as needed or directed by supervisor.
• Works on assignments requiring judgment and initiative to resolve problems and make recommendations.
• May be called upon to oversee projects and leader-assigned staff while in the field and/or on an episodic basis.
• Reads and interprets equipment manuals to perform required maintenance and service and understands standard operating procedures (SOPs) as required to perform duties.
• Ensures documentation is complete and includes reference materials such as photographs and logs for shared daily task lists and ongoing major project files.
• Other duties as assigned.
• High school diploma with experience in construction trades.
• Ability to perform skilled labor in trades such as rough and finish carpentry, painting, drywall, electrical, plumbing, mechanical systems, etc., with little or no supervision.
• Ability to use basic and precision hand tools and utilize precision measuring instruments.
• Ability to read, write, and interpret documents such as safety regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to foster cooperative relationships with staff.
• Ability to understand and follow Foundation and departmental policies and procedures.
• Demonstrated flexibility and ability to work effectively individually or as a team member in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities and unexpected events or delays.
• Ability to work up to 40 hours a week as scheduled and occasional nights and weekends as required by supervisor.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Familiarity with OSHA safety guidelines and regulations and/or willingness to undergo such training.
• Certificate of completion at a two-year technical trade school.
• Previous experience working in historic building conservation or a preservation-related trade
• Understanding of well and waste water treatment plants
• Ability to weld and complete metal work
• Ability to operate heavy machinery such as backhoes, front end loaders, and graders
• Computer proficiency including Outlook, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Office products.
• Previous experience performing similar duties at a historic site.
• Familiarity with the architecture and ideas of Frank Lloyd Wright.
