Controller
Description

    

Overall Responsibility:  Develop, create, and execute the operational vision for the organization’s financial and accounting functions. Working under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller implements operational oversight in the implementation of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, the maximization of revenue recognition, the effective and efficient management of cash and investments, and the synchronization of accurate and timely preparation and presentation of financial, tax, regulatory, and other decision-oriented information to better assist leadership at all levels in developing policies, planning strategically, and making informed business decisions.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Operationally directs and contributes to the application of accounting principles, the development of accounting practices and procedures, and the management of effective internal controls to ensure financial statements are presented in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Operationally directs and contributes to the preparation of monthly financial reporting, processing of accounts payable, and accounts receivable management. 
  • Develops  and implements effective policies, procedures, and processes utilized by the finance and accounting staff to maintain general ledger accuracy and guarantee timely completion of financial reporting, year-end audit preparation, internal audit projects, and other regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Executes and manages treasury management policies and procedures to ensure efficient use and control of cash and invested assets in accordance with Chief Financial Officer and Investment Committee’s objectives.
  • Maintains professional relationships with external auditors, regulatory agencies, vendors, and other external stakeholders to ensure financial information is provided in a timely manner and meets the need of the users.
  • Provides training and mentoring to, establishes goals and objectives in line with the department’s strategic vision with, and develops career progression and succession plans for finance and accounting team members to promote employee engagement, operational efficiency, and professional development.

Requirements

Minimum Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, or related field, from an accredited four-year college or university plus a minimum of combined ten years of experience in accounting and/or financial statement preparation and leadership roles. 


Other Experience:

  • In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and its application.
  • Experience with SaaS and cooperative accounting principles and procedures preferred.
  • Sage Intacct and accounting systems implementations/integrations as a plus. 
  • Ability to develop financial policies and procedures.
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare accurate reports in a timely fashion.
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently utilize an enterprise resource planning technology.
  • Advanced knowledge and ability in the use of a personal computer and software applications (e.g., Microsoft, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Active Certified Public Accountant license is recommended, but not required.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain detailed records.
  • Ability to effectively direct and supervise staff.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a complex and fast-paced environment.
