Position Profile

This role reports to a Senior Editor in the Adult Trade group with the possibility of supporting two editors across fiction and nonfiction.  


Primary Responsibilities 

  • Communicate with other departments, authors, and agents.
  • Write editorial materials, including but not limited to: tip sheets, catalog copy, jacket copy, and copy to feed out to online retailers.
  • Read submissions and provide feedback.
  • Prepare acquisition materials and provide editorial notes on acquired manuscripts.  
  • Input data into our electronic databases, in particular Biblio.
  • Shepherd UK co-pub titles through the US publication process and present these titles at pre-launch and launch meetings.
  • Mail out various forms of correspondence, including book mailings.
  • Prepare Travel and Expense reports and Focal Point invoices.
  • Calendar management for the Editorial Director and the organization and scheduling of various department meetings.
  • Make restaurant reservations, book travel via the corporate travel agent, and book conference appointments.
  • Create Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, and PowerPoint presentations.
  • Commission and send advance payments.
  • Run P&Ls.
  • Research/update sales figures (Cognos, Decision Key, Royalty Share) for tip sheets.
  • Draft deal memos, review contracts, and upload to Biblio.
  • Pull seasonal lists and maintain pub grids and department grids.
  • Research and analyze trends and competition.
  • Review reprints and make necessary updates.
  • Prepare illustration suggestions and art logs for illustrated titles.
  • Prepare manuscripts for transmittal.
Requirements
  •  Bachelor's Degree in a related field and at least one year of experience.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.
  • Organization.
  • Multi-tasking and ability to work under tight deadlines.
  • Attention to detail. 
  • Critical reading skills/editorial eye.
  • Ability to take initiative.
  • Interest in working on fiction and non-fiction titles. 
  • Microsoft Office skills.

Location

Candidates must reside in the NY tri-state area. Candidates must be able to work in person 2+ days per week in our Herald Square office in New York City.

Salary Description
$47,500/yr ($26.10/hour)
