Admissions Counselor
Description

To recruit and enroll incoming freshman students from a designated geographic region who are seeking an excellent Christian liberal arts education and assist in the day-to-day administration of the office.  


Key Responsibilities:

  • Recognize that any activity related to the role and scope of the Admissions Office is a personal responsibility; mature conduct and professional work are expected at all times. This position requires that the person is actively participating in a wide variety of social media activities such as blogging, Facebook communication, social bookmarking, commenting, etc. and is well-connected with the broader social media world. Therefore, Admissions counselors must take care as well to ensure that personal use of social media does not negatively impact the workplace, or the institution. 
  • Execute the strategies and tactics contained in the Enrollment Management Marketing Plan focused on recruiting new freshman to Greenville University.
  • Coordinate and participate in activities designed to introduce prospective students, parents, and other constituents to Greenville University, including individual campus visits, Preview Days, the Agape Festival, and other special events; often involving weekends.
  • Understand that you are a Greenville University representative and are constantly presenting a public image of the university.
  • Host and interview prospective students on and off campus.
  • Identify prospect pool, follow-up in person or by phone, mail, or e-mail, and encourage prospective students through the application, acceptance, financial aid, deposit, scheduling, and registration processes
  • Maintain consistent phone contact with prospective students and families; this often means attempting 150 phone contacts each week and spending 15 to 20 hours on the phone each week.  Some evening calling is expected each week.
  • This position is responsible for increasing the university's brand awareness, driving internet traffic, and increasing social media activity within an assigned territory. Admissions counselors are expected to be able to embrace social media technology and be the “personal touch” online and are therefore expected to leverage social networks to strengthen and create relationships with existing prospective student online.
  • Some travel with some heavy lifting.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Undergraduate Admissions.


Requirements
  • An understanding and appreciation of Christian higher education.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Outstanding people skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both spoken and written; must be able to speak clearly and be understood over the telephone.
  • Ability and desire to work effectively in a challenging, goal-oriented sales environment.
  • Creative and enthusiastic.
  • Computer skills; especially Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • An understanding of how to responsibly utilize Social Media in a work environment.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Ability to manage time well on a varying work schedule.
  • Must have and retain a valid driver’s license and meet Greenville University driving standards.
