Position Overview:


The Paint Technician I is responsible for setting up and operating spraying equipment to coat or paint

component parts.


Responsibilities:

  •  Determine paint flow, viscosity, and coating quality by performing visual inspections.?
  •  Observe machine gauges and equipment operation to detect defects or deviations from standards and make adjustments as necessary.
  •  Visually inspect and ensure respirators and other personal protective equipment are in working order.
  •  Set up, control and adjust controls on ovens to ensure proper drying of surfaces. 
  • Disassemble, clean, and reassemble sprayers or power equipment, using solvents, wire brushes, and cloths. 
  • Mix paints to match color specifications or original colors, stirring or thinning paints, using spatulas or power mixing equipment.
  •  Monitor painting operations to identify flaws, such as blisters or streaks, and correct their causes. Dispose of hazardous waste in an appropriate manner.
  •  Ensure work area is safe, clean and organized, and that equipment and tools are safe to operate.
Requirements

Requirements:

  • Requires reading, writing, adding, subtracting and the use of formulas, charts, tables, and drawings, requiring interpretation in their various application.
  • Ability to perform activities that require visual spatial perception and a high degree of eye hand coordination over sustained periods
  • Continuous mental and visual attention on repetitive work requiring constant alertness or activity.
  • Ability to set up and check the work of others, assisting, training and instructing them to maintain the flow of work in assigned work area.
  • Requires the use of judgment to plan, perform and make decisions as to the sequence of set ups, operations and processes within the limitations of recognized or standard methods and procedures.
  • Light physical effort consisting of:

1. Lifting or moving material over 5 pounds and up to 15 pounds over 40% of the time.

2. Standing, walking for sustained periods.

3. Continuous pushing, pulling and bending required.

  • Ability to work in an environment where a number of elements including dust, heat, cold, noise, vibration, oil, etc. are present.

Education and Work/ Skill Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Over 1 year up to and including 3 years previous qualifying experience on related work, either within the organization or outside. required to attain quality and quantity performance standards.
