Duration: Based on sports season. Coaching only.

Reporting to: Director of Athletics, Head Coach, Principal, Head of School

Schedule: Based on sports schedule (training/games/tournaments)

Stipend position only

Hours: Requires flexibility (practices could be before school or after school)/ School Day is 7:50 am – 3:20 pm

Job Summary

Position is responsible for assisting the head coach with organizing the sports program. Position assists with conducting practices, motivating students, and instructing student athletes in game strategies and techniques.


Essential Duties

1. Ensures that the four pillars of a Dominican education (prayer, study, community, preaching) are developed and promoted throughout the softball program

2. Models Christian values and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators

3. Assists the head coach with instructing players in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport

4. Organizes, directs, and supervises individual and small group practice activities/exercises as directed by the head coach

5. Assesses player’s skills, monitors players during competition and practice, and keeps the head coach informed of the athletic performance of students

6. Assists with determining game strategy

7. Assists the head coach with supervising athletes during practices and competition

8. Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury; communicates regularly with the athletic trainer in the rehabilitation of athletes

9. Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators

10. Distributes equipment, supplies, and uniforms to students as directed by the head coach

11. Participates in special activities to include Open House, Athletic Awards Night, pep rallies, 9th grade registration, etc.

12. Performs support tasks such as equipment inventory, distributing and maintaining eligibility forms, emergency data cards, and other related records

13. Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities while instructing, guiding, and motivating students to be successful on and off the field

14. Attends all coaches meetings, staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance

16. Encourages student athletes to maintain a high academic standard

17. Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Head Coach, Director of Athletics, & Principal or other appropriate administrator

Requirements

Candidates must have a minimum of 60 completed college hours. A Bachelor’s degree is preferred. Must have previous coaching and/or playing experience at the high school varsity level or higher. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents, coaches, and students. Driving team bus to and from practice and games. Complete Safe Haven training.

This job operates in a professional/education/physical activity environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. This role routinely uses sports related activity equipment. Both outdoor and indoor practice and game locations will be used.
