Description

Pelletron is the global leading supplier for dust removal systems for plastic processors and plastics manufacturers. Besides the plastics industry, the dedusting technology is also used in the food, mineral and recycling industries. In 2003, the company began to expand into the pneumatic conveying field and developed a new pressure conveying process, trade named pellcon3®. Pelletron has a wide range of pneumatic conveying components such as rotary valves, diverter valves and shut-off valves, specially designed for conveying of pellets and powders. The Pellbow®, a special pipe elbow, another Pelletron invention, is used in the plastics industry to prevent dust and streamers in the conveying process. 


Purpose

The Test Lab Engineer is responsible for testing and evaluation of equipment performance as applicable to both customer materials in Pelletron equipment and internal products and systems. 


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform testing to confirm performance of Pelletron equipment on customer supplied bulk materials 
  • Physical evaluation of as-received and as-tested material samples for conditions of particle size, debris content, and physical properties such as bulk density and angle of repose per applicable ASTM, ISO, or other standards.
  • Setup of equipment, determination of operating conditions, testing, and evaluation of results for capacity, cleaning performance, or other critical design parameters.
  • Perform design, setup, testing, and evaluation of custom equipment and test apparatus as part of engineering standards improvement, new product development, and R&D to assist in furthering and improving the technical offerings and capabilities of Pelletron. 
  • Document all testing with accurate, objective, and detailed technical reports.
  • Perform upgrades to lab equipment when required to keep pace with current technologies.
  • Maintain all lab equipment in a constant state of operational readiness.
  • Support R&D efforts on new products, design modifications, quality investigations, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements

  

Qualifications and Work Experience

  • Bachelor of Science degree, preferably in a mechanical discipline with coursework in fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, mechanics and machine design, and with minimum of two years of related experience. Additional desirable experience includes:

     - Understanding and ability to apply engineering mathematics (up to and including algebra, trigonometry, and calculus)

     - Testing and lab experience including both manual data collection and data collection via electronic instrumentation

     - Bulk solids handling and/or pneumatic conveying

     - R&D/New product development processes 

     - Proficiency in the use of hand and power tools

  • Working knowledge of CAD software (such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks)
  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents including process flow diagrams, P&ID’s, and equipment arrangement, assembly, and manufacturing drawings.
  • Communication skills to include:

     - Oral communications with peers, groups, and customers

     - Presentation of testing results

     - Technical report writing
