Marketing & Communications Intern
Description

As a Summer Intern for the North Carolina Railroad Company, you will have the opportunity to work with the Commercial Team, which includes Real Estate, Communications, GIS, and our Economic Development team. The Marketing & Communications Intern role aims to provide an opportunity to develop hands-on work experience for students planning to begin a communication and/or marketing career. University students will gain practical experience in creating design materials from start to finish and crafting the message for rail-related projects across the state and region. Performs activities related to their field of study while working in a corporate environment.

Requirements

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Developing original content for social media platforms 
  • Assist in drafting media materials, including graphic design and marketing materials.
  • Recommend design ideas and recommendations following the NCRR brand guidelines.
  • Create and coordinate multimedia packages. 
  • Supports and plans work on projects with direction from management. 
  • Works with various departments and vendors to gather information for multiple projects. 
  • Creates or updates systems or databases for specific department needs.
  • Collaborate on special projects that require building relationships and partnering with other groups to reach goals.
  • May create documentation outlining processes, procedures, programs, testing/review results, etc.  
  • May complete specific clerical/administrative duties.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES: 

  • Self-starter with a passion for graphic design, marketing, and communications.
  • Operating knowledge of X and LinkedIn.
  • Ability to analyze, review, and make recommendations.
  • Ability to plan and manage work under time constraints, with limited direct supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer-centered service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Photoshop, InDesign, and other marketing and graphic design software.
  • Ability to create effective marketing pieces using the NCRR brand design guidelines and color palette.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • Two (2) years of education at an accredited college, university, or technical school (must be currently enrolled) working towards a bachelor’s degree majoring in communication and/or marketing

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • This work is predominantly conducted in an office setting. 
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. 
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
