Employment Type: Part Time, (16 hours) spread over two weekdays (8am-4pm)

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Pay Rate: $25 - $32/hour based on experience. 


History:

The Nativity School is located in the heart of Rancho Santa Fe and opened its doors in September 1996 as an integral part of the Church of the Nativity. The addition of the school represented phase two of the master plan of the parish and its commitment to serving the spiritual, academic, emotional and physical needs of Catholic families. The Nativity School is dedicated to providing a challenging educational environment, as well as developing character development and decision-making skills nurtured in our Catholic values. A differentiated approach to education is the foundation that cultivates the intellect and promotes the sound spiritual, social, emotional and physical growth of our students.

Job Description:

The Nativity School is looking for a Spanish Teacher to work with 3rd-8th grade students in a Catholic school setting. Additional responsibilities/subjects possible depending on candidate’s qualifications and availability. The 10-month position will begin August 5, 2024. 


Responsibilities: 

  • Construct lessons to develop differentiated instruction in academically diverse classrooms
  • Use multiple teaching strategies to support and differentiate instruction
  • Support the Catholic faith development of all students development in cross-curricular instruction 
  • Use frequent formative feedback and assessments to communicate student progress
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies
  • Collaborate with teaching team to coordinate instruction and discuss student progress
  • Maintain accurate student records and grades in an organized manner
  • Maintain a neat and orderly classroom environment
  • Complete lesson plans and unit planning throughout the school year
  • Provide grade appropriate enrichment and remediation as needed
  • Provide proper student supervision
  • Keep open lines of communication with parents 
  • Attend a number of all school functions
  • Meet all deadlines set by administration
  • Any additional duties identified by the principal
Requirements


Religious Qualifications:

  • Active, practicing Roman Catholic (preferred) 
  • Respects and understands a Catholic school philosophy.

Qualifications:

  • Fluent in speaking and writing Spanish
  • Leadership skills including visioning, coaching, facilitation, active listening and use of data to make informed decisions
  • Ability to prioritize resources for continuous improvement
  • Understanding of state and Diocesan core standards and school wide student learning expectations
  • Understanding of curriculum mapping and learning outcomes
  • Knowledge of current educational research, components of elementary programming and best practices for instruction
  • Necessary background and training in elementary educational methods and subject areas
  • Understanding of child development and skills necessary to relate to the students
  • Appropriate control and discipline techniques, which will enhance the learning environment
  • Ability to work successfully with teachers in the development and revision of PK-8 programming
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships
  • Ability to work with diverse curricular areas
  • Broad knowledge of school curriculum and technology integration
  • Knowledge of student assessment and grading
  • Knowledge of program evaluation
  • The ability to work within the basic tenets of the Catholic faith
  • Good computer skills.

Work Experience: 

  • At least three years of classroom teaching experience 
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher 
  • Multiple or single subject (Spanish) teaching credential

Physical Requirements:

To successfully meet the needs of the students in his/her care, the teacher must: 

  • Spend the majority of the day standing in the classroom. While standing the teacher will frequently hold objects they are working with or demonstrating 
  • Sit on an occasional basis when developing lesson plans, grading, etc.
  • Walk through the classroom and be able to maneuver in tight spaces between desks. Walk on both even and uneven surfaces
  • Deal with students while kneeling or squatting, stooping, or bending 
  • Reach at, below, or above shoulder height with the dominant upper extremity; may require trunk or neck rotation to look back at the class 
  • Assist in moving children's desks and chairs to change the layout of the classroom to influence the learning situation. It is occasionally necessary to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 25 pounds from the office to classrooms 

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to be inside the classroom. The employee is required to be mobile to, from, and within the classroom and preschool environment, as well as maneuver throughout the school facility to attend meetings, trainings, and other work-related events. The employee may be required to conduct trips to, from, and within various city and county-wide locations to attend trainings or workshops.
