Description

JOB SUMMARY 

Currently seeking a qualified candidate to succeed in the role of Estimator. This full-time position reports to the Commercial Sales Manager with the responsibility to prepare and/or coordinate the preparation of full estimates on projects of all sizes as required by client inquiries.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Reviews and evaluates requests for estimates. These requests may come from prospects, customers, and/or internal customers.
  • Reviews estimates and revisions for completeness and accuracy.
  • Reviews documents and understands scope of work to bid.
  • Obtains pricing for materials and bids from subcontractors.
  • Prepares cost analysis in computer by recapitulating material, labor, equipment, subcontractor and overhead costs incurred in the installation of items.
  • Where predetermined standard(s) are not available, makes an estimate.
  • Develops bid calendar and ensures timely completion of estimates.
  • Once an estimate becomes a project, communicates with and turns over jobs to Project Manager(s) and assists in clarifying information regarding the project.
  • Develops and maintains resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, government requirements, etc.
  • Informs supervisor of any inaccuracies or omissions in quoted items or computer database.

 

 SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company guidelines, policies and procedures, and applicable laws.  Supervisory responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • A two-year degree in Business or similar plus one year of experience providing technical estimates or (2) a high school degree and four years of experience providing technical estimates.
  • Computer literate, preferably Microsoft Windows operating system and applications. (i.e. Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Proven excellent organizational, communication, attention to detail, and follow through skills.
  • Proven track record of effectively working well with people over the telephone.
  • Ability to work with technical information involving basic conceptual drawings as well as an understanding of general mechanical concepts.
  • Overall general mechanical aptitude.
  • Good math, spatial and computational skills.
