SUMMARY:
Under direct supervision of Head Lifeguards, Aquatics Specialists and/or Aquatics Coordinator, the Lifeguard position is responsible for patron surveillance and safety including general maintenance, cleaning and inspection of equipment in the Aquatics area of the Carbon Valley Recreation Center.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
- Perform patron surveillance and ensure patron safety at all times in and around the pool area.
- Maintain proficiency of all Lifeguard skills by attending and participating in 4 hours of monthly in-service trainings.
- Be able to demonstrate and perform proficient Lifeguarding, CPR and basic first aid skills per StarGuard ELITE and American Health and Safety Institute standards.
- Perform general pool maintenance and cleaning duties.
- Enforce District guidelines, policies, and pool rules in Aquatic area to ensure employee and public safety.
- Responds to emergency situations as required and maintains accurate accident and incident reports.
- Assist with special projects and special events on behalf of the District as needed and assigned.
- Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively in both oral and written form.
- Perform related work as required and assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Current lifeguard certification from StarGuard ELITE, American Red Cross, or Elias and Associates.
- The ability to pass a skills test, including a 100 yard continuous swim, tread water for 1 minute without the use of hands, retrieve a 10 lbs. brick from a depth of 12 feet using a feet first surface dive.
- 15 years of age
- Must be available to work all shifts including days, nights, weekends and holidays

PHYSICAL DEMANDS, JOB LOCATION AND EQUIPMENT UTILIZED:
- This position requires a high level of physical ability including standing for long periods, bending, reaching, lifting, jumping, walking, stretching, etc. Most duties are performed in a senior center setting, with occasional need for activity outdoors. This position will work closely with customers of varying abilities and must be comfortable acknowledging those different abilities and aptitudes.
- Physical demands are described as medium (exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and up to 10 lbs. force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body).
