The MLCP paralegal is part of an innovative and award-winning team at NLSLA’s Medical Legal Community Partnerships. Through MLCP, NLSLA integrates legal advocacy directly into the heart of healthcare settings such as the LA County Department of Health Services, LA County Department of Mental Health, and Kaiser Permanente. This collaboration with medical professionals allows NLSLA’s MLCP to tackle the underlying social drivers of health through targeted legal interventions.

The MLCP paralegal is dedicated to assisting clients remotely or in person at NLSLA’s program offices or MLCP clinical sites. Backed by a supportive team that includes the MLCP Supervising Attorney and Associate Supervisor, the paralegal will tackle a range of legal barriers. These include securing housing, navigating public benefits, healthcare, family law matters, immigration, and more. The goal of MLCP’s work is to break down these legal barriers, paving the way for better access to essential services and resources that promote health, access to food, income, and personal safety.

In this role, you would report to the Associate Supervising Attorney or Supervising Attorney and a career path may result in future opportunities as a promotion to Senior Paralegal. This position is non-exempt.

  • Provide information and legal assistance on a range of issues in support of our clients in numerous practice areas. 
  • You may be called to conduct intake, provide technical assistance to medical partners, and/or generally support the team’s activities at an MLCP clinical site.  
  • Under attorney supervision, paralegals handle their own caseloads, may represent clients at administrative hearings, provide community education presentations to the community and assist in policy advocacy and litigation, as required. 



For this role, the ideal candidate has  

  • Worked in a legal aid law firm.  
  • Dedicated to working with non-profit public interest organizations. 
  • Bilingual skills in Spanish or an Asian language. 


  • Qualified candidates must have one of the following:  
  1. Paralegal Certificate 
  2. B.A. or B.S. degree with 1 year experience working in a law office or other legal setting under the supervision of a licensed attorney with a letter certifying the experience. 
  3. High School degree with 3 years’ experience working in a law office or other legal setting under the supervision of a licensed attorney with a letter certifying the experience.  This experience and training shall be completed no later than December 31, 2003. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to conduct research and problem-solve. 
  • Strong communication skills (oral/written).
  • Patience and sensitivity with people in crisis situations.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel, business communication platforms, and web-based case management platforms.


The salary range for this position is $50,000-$58,000.
