Salary: $84,000 - $120,000 (dependent on experience)


Job Summary

The Senior Data Systems Manager will manage and support NRPA’s Association Management System (AMS) and all related data and integrations. This position will also partner with related vendors regarding the ongoing maintenance and development of this membership system. You will also be responsible for identifying opportunities that improve the AMS system, allowing NRPA to take full advantage of the platform’s capabilities in support of the association’s tactical and strategic goals and to enhance the customer experience of both internal clients and NRPA’s membership. You will regularly develop and maintain reporting functions to support the association’s business needs and ensure the data provided is timely, relevant and accurate. 

The Senior Data Systems Manager will also supervise a full-time Data Analyst position, providing direction and assigning duties and responsibilities. You will report directly to the Sr. Director of IT, and together you will collaborate with NRPA customer service, certification, business development, marketing, research and finance teams to deliver on their goals.


Specifically, your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Maintain and enhance the AMS system, database and member-facing and staff web interfaces, including reporting, login and system performance. Submit tickets for system issues or requests with AMS vendor as needed.
  • Lead all development projects for the AMS system, including those that allow for NRPA to take full advantage of its overall capabilities, improve business processes, and keep the platform secure and on an up-to-date version. As project manager, you will interact with third-party vendors for these projects. Oversee the analysis and planning for system migrations and implementations. 
  • Identify and providing solutions for compliance and optimization of system.
  • Serve as in-house expert for the AMS, staying current on new or modified features, modules, and functionality. Provide documentation, and perform or manage troubleshooting and testing of system(s). Troubleshooting includes working with and managing third-party vendors (both for the AMS and integrated platforms)
  • Develop and maintain data reports/views that support the association’s membership, marketing, communications, research and public policy activities.
  • Serve as staff liaison for NRPA’s association management system including:
  • Maintain NRPA staff accounts and user credentials and serves as staff trainer for the AMS.
  • Track and manage AMS issues and project requests in help ticket system. Keep all stakeholders informed on the status of their tickets.
  • Automate processes as needed, including event confirmations, welcome letters, staff reports, alerts, data validation, etc. 
  • Manage, test and maintain third-party application integrations with the AMS, including RealMagnet, HigherLogic, SonicForms, Elevate and others as needed.
  • Coordinate AMS upgrades and service pack updates with solutions provider as well as prepare and perform testing of new features from AMS and third-party updates and upgrades.
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation of configuration changes, end-user instructions, and business processes. 
  • Add/update content as needed to staff site dashboards and websites.
  • Provide support for Annual Conference as needed, with special attention to management of database of conference registrants and attendees.
  • Undertake special projects and assignments as directed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technology related field or equivalent combination of education, experience and certification,  
  • 7-10 years of hands-on experience supporting and enhancing relational databases - specifically Association Management Systems – along with their structures/modules/components.
  • 1-2 years hands-on experience implementing, enhancing and supporting a cloud-based AMS, including configuring dashboards, updating member and staff site content, creating panels, content pages and process automations, developing views and reports for dashboards and continuum report lists.
  • 1-2 years direct supervisory and/or management experience, including the guidance and development of subordinate staff.
  • Solid knowledge of access/security protocols – User permissions, page/content access settings, content authority.
  • Demonstrated project management experience with strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to grasp concepts quickly.
  • Proven experience identifying issues, making recommendations and finding effective solutions through analytical, logical and iterative approaches.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical staff.

  • Travel: up to 10 days per year. 
  • You are able to meet the typical physical & mental demands: Requires prolonged sitting with some bending, stooping and stretching, and eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard and other office and computer equipment.
