GENERAL SUMMARY 

The Director of Nursing provides clinical leadership by assessing, implementing and evaluating the care provided to patients and families in the program. The role encompasses opportunity for patient care. The RN also demonstrates interest and involvement in the development of staff and positively impacts the members of the healthcare team through mentoring, education, and knowledge sharing. As Director of Nursing, the RN is responsible for all clinical aspects of our Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC).

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION/COMPETENCIES 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assists with managing labor cost by coordinating adequate staffing patterns according to the utilization of the area and keeping an open line of communication with Clinical Director/Manager and Administrator, as per facility practices.
  • Assists with development of policies/procedures and facility practices, as directed.
  • Responsible for monitoring clinical staff for compliance with facility policies and practices, procedures, and QI Program (hazardous waste, blood borne pathogens, infection control).
  • Demonstrates a commitment to patient safety by being knowledgeable about evidence and best practices for safety, speaking up about safety issues, and changing practice to enhance safety.
  • Involved with interviewing and hiring of staff.  Orients new staff and new ASC staff and assures that training and education needs of staff are met by encouraging the staff, where appropriate, to participate in clinics, seminars, continuing education classes, professional organizations, certifications.
  • Coordinates the activities and the work assignments of staff members. Oversees minimally invasive procedures and other office based surgery.
  • Directs preparation and maintenance of patients' clinical records.
  • Performs patient care as assigned, such as catheter removals, voiding trials, clinical calls, medication refills, etc. 
  • Performs other position related duties as assigned.
Requirements


CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSURES OR REGISTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • RN license and certification as required by state.
  • BLS certification required. ACLS certification required. If not currently ACLS certified, be willing to obtain certification.
  • CBUNA certification preferred, but not required.


KNOWLEDGE | SKILLS | ABILITIES

  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software and Internet software.
  • Excellent organizational skills, self motivation and demonstrated attention to detail in work related activities required.
  • Excellent verbal, written and cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to handle issues that may arise between staff, physicians, patients and families in a calm and professional manner.
  • Knowledge in healthcare systems operations such as EMR.
  • Knowledge of clinical skills, such as administering medication, assessing and examining patients, performing vital signs, sterility, etc.
  • Complies with HIPAA regulations for patient confidentiality.


EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program required. BSN required.


EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • 2 to 3 years related experience.
  • Prefer knowledge of Urodynamic, biofeedback, infusion, and operating room standards and techniques.
  • Prior management experience is preferred.
