Assistant Meat Team Leader

Job Summary

Assists in managing the Meat Department by directing and managing associates, ensures excellent customer service, orders perishable products and supplies, and implements merchandising initiatives to stimulate the growth of the business while meeting customer requirements, maximizing profits and minimizing shrink. 

Supervisory Responsibilities

Meat Associates



  • Schedules associates, delegates work assignments, and controls department costs to ensure Store, Department and customer requirements are met.
  • Orders and maintains inventory control to ensure freshness, product quality and turnover for maximum sales and return-on-investment.
  • Maintains a safe and clean environment to ensure health and OSHA requirements are met.
  • Reports customer feedback to Buyer and Store Director to identify areas needing improvement.
  • Provides customers with prompt and courteous service or assistance.
  • Adheres to all local, county, state and federal health, civil code, and weights and measures laws.
  • Responsible for performing all duties and job functions of an experienced Meat Cutter.
  • Assists in receiving and unloading products; verifies items listed on vendor invoices are all delivered; checks products for quality, count, weight, and condition.
  • Stocks display cases and ensures proper rotation of products, takes finished products to refrigerated storage or shelf areas, maintains organized cooler.
  • Handles damaged and spoiled products according to company policy and assists in controlling shrink.
  • Maintains accurate department records to ensure documentation of activities is available. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Education And Experience (E = Essential D = Desired)

  • (E) High school education or equivalent
  • (E) 2-5 years experience in meat operations
  • (E) 2 years in a retail environment
