Description

**Full-time 4 x 10 hours shifts (7a - 5:30p)+ Every Other Weekend Off!**


SUMMARY:

 St. John’s Untied is dedicated to providing a warm, home-like environment for our elders. We pride ourselves on delivering exceptional care that meets the diverse needs of our residents. As a Cottage Cook, you will be responsible for preparing meals for 12 to 26 elders in our care. Your primary duties will include food production, meal preparation, and maintaining the highest standards of sanitation and safety in the kitchen. You will work closely with our team to ensure that every meal is delicious, nutritious, and tailored to the unique dietary needs of our residents. You do not need to be an expert chef. If you’re willing to learn, we’re happy to train you!


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Food Production

  

  • Collect food ingredients and supplies from the storeroom as required for daily operations.
  • Review production schedules and menus to determine food requirements, including variety and quantity of food for preparation.
  • Assemble supplies and equipment needed for daily cooking activities.
  • Season and prepare a wide variety of foods consistent with the menu.
  • Measure, weigh, and combine ingredients for quantity preparation.
  • Slice, grind, and cook meats and vegetables using a full range of cooking methods.
  • Test foods being cooked for quality.
  • Ensure that food is properly stored, labeled, and dated.
  • Prepare and bake simple baked goods.
  • Assist with meal preparation for special events and holidays.
  • Prepare meals in accordance with special diet statements.
  • Maintain cleanliness in Kitchen, Dining, and Common areas of the Cottage.


Sanitation and Safety

  • Maintains clean work areas, utensils, and equipment
  • Practices appropriate sanitation and safety techniques in accord with Serv Safe
  • Obtains Serv Safe Certification within 6 months of employment
  • Practices appropriate knife and equipment safety at all times
  • Performs daily and weekly cleaning duties as assigned
  • Deep cleans Kitchen, Dining, Food Storage (including refrigerators/freezers), and Common area at least 2 times per month
  • Disposes of spoiled and/or outdated food
  • Protects equipment, utensils, food, and other items of inventory from contamination, spoilage, and pilferage
  • Maintains production records, food temperature logs, menus, and other record keeping
  • Attends to day to day problems and needs concerning equipment and food supplies, including minor repairs to equipment or reporting equipment needs to supervisor


Resident Care

  • Assist with getting residents to the dining area when needed required.
  • Assists with feeding when needed required.
  • Provides effective, timely, and quality health care assistance and related support for residents of the Assisted and Independent Living Facilities preferred.
  • If certified as a CNA, must maintain certification and continued education on resident care related issues preferred.
Requirements

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Certification of St. John’s feeding program and transfer training within first three months of employment; provided on-the-job.
  • High School diploma or GED preferred.
  • Prior experience cooking in a kitchen/restaurant/food service setting prefferred. 

Qualifications

  • Comfort and experience around older adults in a healthcare environment preferred.
  • Basic cooking skills and knowledge of food preparation techniques preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to follow recipes and dietary guidelines.
  • Excellent hygiene and sanitation practices.
  • Serv Safe Certification (or willingness to obtain within 6 months of employment).
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Requires moderate physical work more than 70% of the time, including lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally, standing, carrying, lifting, walking, and bending for prolonged periods of time.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work involves some exposure to extreme temperatures, dirt, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises
  • Work involves minimal exposure to hazards, bloodborne pathogens, or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions
  • Normal health care and food service environment
  • Work involves exposure to plants and animals within the environment
