SynTerra is seeking a qualified Project Scientists who can offer our clients their expertise. This is a great opportunity for candidates with 2-5  years of experience in environmental sampling, assessment, and remediation to grow and learn. The position requires working independently on specific tasks and collaborating with clients and other environmental professionals. The role could be based out of our Cary, NC; Charlotte, NC; or Greenville, SC offices, and requires the ability to work outdoors and occasionally travel.


Position snapshot:

  • Prepares a wide variety of recurring and nonrecurring correspondence, reports, and other documents from information obtained from the staff, files, and other sources.
  • Performs various types of field work including, but not limited to, environmental media sampling (air, soil, groundwater, surface water); monitoring well installation; field mapping; wetlands determinations; and site inspections. 
  • Prepares notes, maps, and other information from field work for use in data evaluation and reporting. 
  • Evaluates data using various methods, tools, and computer programs. Works both independently and collaboratively to evaluate data, report findings, and make recommendations.      
  • Independently notes and follows up on professional commitments made at meetings or as affected by other staff members, coordinates meeting arrangements, and schedules meetings, conferences, etc.
  • Uses varied and advanced functions of “office suite automation, " including diagramming, e-mail, GIS, presentation, word processing, and spreadsheet software. Create, format, modify, edit, and print a variety of outputs from the automation listed in a professional and timely manner.
  • Interprets annotations, construction plans, historical references, interviews, on-site investigations, and site plans in developing the appropriate document submission to satisfy client’s needs. Assists in preparing technical reports and documents.
  • Consistent travel throughout the market for field work.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in geology, environmental science, chemistry, biology or other relevant science-related field.
  • Software proficiency (including but not limited to): Adobe Acrobat, ESRI ArcGIS, Google Earth Pro, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills for all levels of technical understanding.
  • 40 hr. OSHA HAZWOPER trained a plus.
  • Must be able to work in indoor and outdoor settings, ranging from climate-controlled office space to foul weather, heat, and rain.
  • May sit or stand for several hours and climb inclines (terrains, ladders, etc.).
  • Required to lift objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment.
  • Travel throughout client service area is required as needed.

Physical Demands/Working Environment:

· Must be able to lift heavy objects and work outside in heat and cold.

· Must be able to stand and walk for long periods.

· Must concentrate for extended periods, paying close attention to detail. 

· Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
