OPPORTUNITY 

The Black Student Engagement Intern serves a vital role in fostering a supportive community for our high school and college scholars, with a particular focus on students of color who identify as Black and/or multi-ethnic. This position leverages their own experiences and understanding to create a welcoming and inclusive space where scholars can thrive.


COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

This position will qualify for a stipend of up to $2,000, paid in two parts - $1,000 per semester. To receive the full $2,000, intern must complete both semesters.

This position is not eligible for benefits.


PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL

To perform the essential functions of this position, employees may be required to: 

  • Sit, stand, talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and keyboard.
  • Have close-vision ability due to computer work.
  • Engage in moderate, occasional lifting.
  • Have a reliable means of transportation to attend regular work as well as other off-site business functions.

Requirements

  

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Organize frequent cohort bonding events/meetings for all 10,000 Degrees scholars, managing the budget and materials required.
  • Provide important updates and announcements to students (campus events, deadlines, resource access, etc.).
  • Be available to support 10,000 Degrees scholars as needed.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with relevant Student Support staff and make appropriate student referrals.
  • Assist in identifying and developing upcoming engagement interns.
  • Aid and support other 10,000 Degrees staff with campus workshops, events, and office hours as needed.
  • Collaborate with managers to contribute to the organization’s regional social media.
  • Support and represent 10,000 Degrees at fundraising, appreciation, and media events.
  • Other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current college student having completed at least 1 year of coursework
  •  Demonstrated willingness to learn and be self-reflective
  • Punctual, attentive, responsive, and naturally engaging
  • Advanced interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and collaborate with diverse populations
  •  Proven ability to take initiative, both in a team setting and individually 
  • Ability to be flexible and effectively problem-solve
  • This position requires some in-person presence and/or travel within the regions served.
