JOB TITLE: Grants Accountant


SUPERVISOR: Grants Reporting and Compliance Manager


Pay Grade: 6     Pay Grade Range: $55,952- $89,440


Starting Salary Range:  $65,000-$70,000

The Grants Accountant will work with the Grants Manager to monitor and report activity for Federal and Foundational awards. Responsibilities include setup of project information in GMRI’s financial system, expense monitoring, invoicing, award closeout and allocation management.


The Grants Accountant should be detail oriented, have a baseline understanding of accounting principles and the Uniform Guidance regulations, and a familiarity with Federal rules and financial systems. The Grants Accountant will interact with all departments and work closely with the Sponsored Projects Office (SPO), members of the Finance & Administrative and Development teams, and GMRI Program personnel. The position will report to the Grants Accounting Manager.


Responsibilities: 


The Grants Accountant will assume the following tasks and responsibilities under the supervision of the Grants Manager:


Financial Management and Oversight:

  • Responsible for monitoring and oversight for all Federal and Foundational awards, in collaboration with SPO, Program Managers and the Development team. 
  • Review and approve program expenses for compliance with Uniform Guidance and awarding agency requirements, as well as GMRI accounting policies
  • Generate and submit monthly invoices to Federal and Foundational funding agencies. 
  • Collaborate with SPO to monitor award activity, process award extensions, re-budgets, and other modifications as required in GMRI’s financial system. 
  • Remain current on federal cost guidelines and funding agency award requirements while developing an ever-deepening knowledge of GMRI’s sponsored funding accounting processes and compliance responsibilities
  • Enter and maintain project information in fringe and indirect allocation sets. Run the monthly allocations for these expenses.
  • Assist in the preparation of Federal grant reports, such as the SF-425 reports, as required by funding source
  • Assist with sub recipient monitoring duties.
  • Assist with audit preparations and the SEFA report.
  • Collaborate with Grants Manager to update and maintain GMRI Grants Manual 
  • Track financial reporting milestones and deliverables 

Financial Information Systems:

  • Works with SPO and GMRI project managers to provide timely, accurate project spend information, projections and financial reports.
  • Assist in maintenance and improvement of information systems for tracking and controlling financial information for projects
  • Develop reports as needed to facilitate the management and reporting of metrics related to GMRI’s sponsored project financial health, including pending/outstanding financial reports, A/R for follow-up, expenses pending invoices, and award financial closeout.

Qualifications:


GMRI seeks a candidate with demonstrated grants accounting experience, a basic comfort level with the Uniform Guidance, strong oral and written communications skills, a friendly and professional demeanor and an interest in expanding their knowledge in a dynamic and entrepreneurial setting.


Specific Requirements Include:

  • B.A. or B.S. degree, in accounting or business or equivalent job experience
  • At least two years of experience with non-profit grants accounting and federal financial reporting. Three or more years’ experience preferred
  • Experience with federal grants and Uniform Guidance cost principles
  • Experience reviewing subaward and subcontract agreements a plus
  • Strong organizational skills to manage and complete multiple and frequent deadlines in addition to responding to the daily needs and requests of program staff
  • Solid computer skills in Microsoft Excel and Word, experience with the Blackbaud's Financial Edge system strongly desired
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills with a variety of levels of management and outside contacts
  • Self-motivated and collaborative approach to problem solving, adept oral and written communication skills, and keen attention to detail.
