Organizational and Program Background


For more than 109 years, the Cleveland Foundation has worked with donors, nonprofit organizations, and community partners to enhance the quality of life for all Greater Cleveland residents. With a focus on Cuyahoga, Lake, and Geauga counties, the foundation builds community endowment, addresses needs through grantmaking and social impact investing, and provides leadership on vital issues. The Cleveland Foundation is the world’s first community foundation and one of the largest today with approximately $3 billion in assets. 


Summary:


The social media manager should have a deep understanding of social media and content marketing strategies and trends. This individual will launch, lead, and manage engaging branded content on the Cleveland Foundation and Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards’ platforms. This role is responsible for amplifying online brand presence by generating creative ideas that showcase the organization and our partners.

Requirements


Responsibilities and Expected Outcomes:

  • Execute the Cleveland Foundation’s social media and content marketing strategy and integrating themes of programming, partnerships, and philanthropy.
  • Collaborate cross-departmentally to develop and maintain an editorial calendar that ensures timely and strategic content marketing.
  • Manage all owned social media properties – organic and paid campaigns – prioritizing high-quality digital content, aligning work with attention to audience interest and growth in platform engagement.
  • Develop a cadence of content for the president and CEO that positions her as a thought leader in the community.
  • Maintain awareness and sensitivity to real-time conversations and brand presence. Establish relationships with social media nonprofit colleagues and local influencers to develop a strong brand network.
  • Establish and maintain social media short- and long-form video content strategy to support inspirational and ongoing storytelling about the foundation’s initiatives and stakeholders.
  • Proactively identify and attend owned, sponsored, and community events and initiatives to capture and publish real-time content for the foundation’s social media platforms.
  • Work with agencies and partners, as appropriate, to develop and implement creative ideas and campaigns that might include short-form video, photography, and blog posts.
  • Collaborate with colleagues responsible for grantmaking and philanthropy communications to creatively repurpose and optimize marketing pieces for social media.  
  • Leverage scheduling and monitoring tools to analyze social media engagement and identify content and user trends for optimization. Use appropriate metrics to contribute to the team’s quarterly report for leadership. 
  • Stay abreast of digital content trends in social media, podcasting, and emerging technologies, adapting insights to improve strategies. 
  • Help to develop and apply racial equity and social justice frames to social media communications.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications, Credentials, and Technical Skills Required:

  • A successful candidate should have three or more years of work experience in content marketing, digital marketing, communications, or a related field. A bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing or a related field is welcome, but not required. 
  • Highly creative with experience in identifying target audiences and devising social campaigns that engage, inform, and motivate.
  • Generalist skills that include Canva, writing, proofing, social and web analytics, project management, and more. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams. 
  • Proficiency in Zoom meetings and webinars for the purpose of hosting and attending virtual convenings. 
  • Advanced proficiency in social scheduling and publishing software and social media platforms including Facebook, X, Instagram, YouTube, Threads, and LinkedIn. 
  • Ability to plan, organize, multi-task, and pay careful attention to detail to support multiple projects, clients, and deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Strong belief in team and client service, including experience collaborating and supporting a team and working effectively with people and communities from diverse backgrounds.
  • Commitment to racial equity and inclusion in all areas of work.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, bi-lingual a plus. 
  • Passion for philanthropic communications, nonprofit marketing, and making a positive impact on the lives of others.
  • Ability to maintain confidence when working with sensitive information.

  • Interest in or familiarity with the Cleveland region and its nonprofit sector is a plus.
  • Demonstrated community involvement.

PAY AND BENEFITS: 

  

Based on the foundation's compensation program, the estimated annual salary for this position may be anywhere between $60,000 and $72,500 with some flexibility, based on the academic, professional, and community experiences and credentials of a candidate. 


The foundation offers an exceptional benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, identity theft, and life and disability coverage, a comprehensive wellness program, an employee assistance program, a fully vested 403(b) retirement plan, ten paid holidays, and, for exempt positions, 15 days of vacation and 12 sick days, prorated the first year of service based on the date of hire.
