Description

The Staff Manager is responsible for recruitment, hiring and retention of seasonal part-time staff, volunteers, interns and drivers for WSSRA seasonal programs, day camp, special events and inclusion. The Staff Manager will supervise two full-time Recreation Specialists.  


  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

1. Develop and implement a recruitment plan to identify individuals who are interested in volunteering or working part-time as seasonal staff, drivers, or aides for WSSRA programs, events and partner inclusive programs.

2. Network with clubs, high schools, colleges, and other organizations that can be a source of work study students, interns and part time staff and volunteers.

3. Identify and attend job fairs, workshops, open houses and other recruitment events.

4. Create and distribute marketing pieces that advertise WSSRA’s opportunities for part time work, internships and volunteering.

5. Work with Program and Inclusion Managers to place staff and volunteers in WSSRA programs/events and provide staff for partner inclusive programs as needed.

6. Recruit, hire, train and onboard part-time supervisors, staff, volunteers, drivers and aides for seasonal programs, day camp, special events and inclusion. 

7. Conduct criminal background checks and reference checks on seasonal staff and volunteers and maintain all required employment paperwork and personnel files.

8. Plan and implement seasonal trainings and schedule appropriate presenters for part-time supervisors, staff and volunteers. 

9. Work with the Staffing Committee to development an incentive program with the goal of retaining part-time staff and volunteers.

10. Prepare and monitor seasonal staffing budgets. 

11. Attend agency fundraisers as needed.

12. Manage Time & Attendance for all seasonal staff and work with the Superintendent of Business to complete 

bi-weekly payroll. 

13. Assist in the planning and development of seasonal programs and special events.

14. Actively support the WSSRA risk management program.


MARGINAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

1. Assist in the supervision of programs as needed.

2. Transport participants as needed.

3. Assist in programming as needed.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

SITTING: 25 -35 hours/week (at desk, in meetings, in vehicles)

STANDING: Copy machine, meetings, presentations

TRANSPORTATION: Ability to get to and from office, programs, and events

LIFTING: Materials for presentations and events, up to 50 pounds

COMMUNICATING: Ability to use telephone, speak to groups, use a computer and e-mail


Requirements

  

Must have a degree from an accredited college or university in Human Resources, Therapeutic Recreation, or a related field. Applicant must have 3 years full time experience, preferably in a setting working with people with disabilities in recreation programs. Previous experience must include the supervision of part-time staff and volunteers. Must demonstrate proficiency in basic computer applications such as Microsoft Office. Bilingual in Spanish and/or Polish desirable. Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist; CTRS preferred. 


 

REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCIES:

1. Ability to work some evening and weekend hours.

2. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both written and verbally.

3. Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background check.

4. Ability to adapt to a changing environment and manage multiple responsibilities.
