Primary Objectives of the Position 

· Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.

· Protects assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls.

· Monitors and confirms financial condition by conducting process reviews; providing information to external auditors as requested.

· Provides status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data.

· Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.

· Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; filing financial reports; advising management on needed actions.

· Maintains financial staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees.

· Maintains financial staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.

· Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

· Protects operations and employees by keeping financial information and plans confidential.

· Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.


Major Areas of Accountability


1. Plans

· Develops annual and long-range strategic and operational plans for the accounting team.

· Develops and implements career and management development plans for certain employees.

· Works with the CEO, CFO, Leadership Team, and account leads in preparation of the annual accounting audits, budgets, and long-range financial plans for UFC.

2. Coordinates

· Assures that other teams understand the business plan of the administrative team and that efforts with members are not in conflict.

· Assists CFO in reporting UFC financial results.

· Resolves conflicts and issues between employees. 

· Assists auditors with semi-annual and annual audits.

· Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.

· Manage outsourced functions.

· Oversee the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectives.

· Oversee the accounting operations of any subsidiary entities, especially their control systems, transaction-processing operations, and policies and procedures.

3. Communicates

· Holds regularly scheduled administrative team employee meetings. 

· Prepares various reports as directed by CFO.

· Keeps Leadership Team and account leads informed of accounting and budget issues.

· Communicates with members on matters of importance and/or interest to maintain their sense of involvement, support and loyalty as members and patrons.

· Resolves customer issues quickly and fairly in accordance with cooperative policies. Refers unusual situations to the CFO.

· Informs Leadership Team and account leads of changes in administrative, billing and accounting procedures.

4. Directs

· Sets priorities and delegates responsibility and authority for effectively accomplish the administrative team’s business plan objectives.

· Establishes level of work performance expected. 

· Assists in the selection of qualified and competent people.

· Identifies, communicates, and documents employee skills, strengths, and weaknesses.

· Make recommendations to the CFO to promote, terminate, and grant merit salary adjustments for administrative team.

· Complies with all laws and regulations that apply to the company.

· Recommends overall company policies to the CEO and CFO.

5. Leadership

· Generates an attitude of team building.

· Models and demonstrates goal commitment and persistence.

· Assures that administrative team understands company-wide objectives and how administrative team supports company goals.

· Sets an example of personal integrity and ethical practice, which provides a desirable standard of conduct for all company personnel.

· Participates in community affairs.

6. Controls

· Establishes specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and trackable performance goals and budget and attains commitments from administrative team to meet those goals. 

· Keeps within budgeted expenses established in the business plan.

· Applies sound business principles in the management of the affairs of the department.

· Recommends appropriate personnel policies and personnel management procedures and monitors for compliance.

· Enforces personnel policies.

· Responsible for establishing and maintaining an accounting system that meets all requirements of the law and is acceptable to outside auditors.

· Responsible for establishing and maintaining a policy and procedures manual to support the accounting system.

· Responsible for preparation of all necessary tax and bank compliance reports.

7. Technical Skills

· Have a general understanding of all product/services provided to members.

· Competent in all phases of accounting, CPA desired.

· Must be computer competent.

· Have good people skills with strong written and verbal skills.

· Attends appropriate training sessions as part of a program of continuing education.

Requirements

Education:

· Bachelor of Science in accounting 

Experience:

· 10 to 12 years of accounting experience.

· Personnel management experience desirable.

· Computer experience required.

· Must have supervisory experience.

· Cooperative background desirable but not necessary

  Agricultural background helpful.
