Westcliff University, which received its initial approval with the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education in 1993 (www.bppe.ca.gov), offers various programs in the College of Business and the College of Education. Westcliff University’s curriculum consists of graduate and undergraduate degree programs in business and education as well as other certificate programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: 3-5 years
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree Required, Master’s Degree Preferred
CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: Must be BOC certified, current CPR/AED certification, NATA Membership preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Applied Knowledge: Athletic trainers must have knowledge of a large range of medical problems. Assessment, evaluation skills and working with other healthcare professionals will be required.
Decision-Making Skills: Ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and return to play decisions per state licensure guidelines. Must be able to report and deliver insight on all decisions and results to managing Associate Athletic Director and Dean of Athletics in an appropriate and timely manner.
Attention to Detail: Athletic trainers should be thorough and detailed with injury tracking and documentation.
Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate effectively in high stress/pressure situations when talking to patients, medical professionals, staff and families.
Must have the ability to organize, prioritize and perform multiple tasks with little or no supervision.
SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Sports Medicine Team serves to provide Westcliff student-athletes with exceptional, holistic care by providing student-athletes with resources to succeed both on and off the field.
The Assistant AD of Sports Medicine will oversee all aspects of the health care of student-athletes at Westcliff University. Reporting to the Associate Athletic Directors and the Dean of Athletics, the Assistant AD of Sports Medicine will lead efforts with organizational and administrative duties as assigned. The Assistant AD of Sports Medicine will also oversee the evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries incurred by student-athletes at Westcliff University.
Lead the Sports Medicine team in coordinating all aspects of the health care of the student-athletes, such as evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries incurred by the intercollegiate student-athletes
Manage all athletic training room functions
Maintain work schedule in the athletic training room
Attend practices and all assigned home athletic events as needed
Administer proper first aid to student-athletes on the field and in the athletic training room
Maintain relationships and work in cooperation with athletics staff, including but not limited to staff, coaches, strength and conditioning coaches, and administrators.
Assist the Athletic Administration in the organizational and administrative duties of the athletic training room. Duties include, but are not limited to:
Administrative meetings
Medical record keeping
Inventory
Organize pre-participation physicals and screenings for student-athletes
Treatment and rehabilitation of student-athletes
Pre-season preparation and practices
Handling of secondary insurance claims
Maintenance of all athletic training supplies and equipment
Development, implementation, and enforcement of athletic training policies and procedures
Maintain knowledge of current standards of practice, actively seek to grow knowledge by attending online and in person continuing education programs, represent university at local, state, and national conventions.
Other duties deemed necessary by the Associate Athletic Directors and the Dean of Athletics.
NUMBER/DESCRIPTION OF PATIENTS (STUDENT-ATHLETES) RESPONSIBLE FOR:
There are approximately 400 student-athletes enrolled at Westcliff currently, this number is expected to grow as the university sponsors more sport programs. Sport assignments and coverage schedules are fluid.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
As Westcliff Athletics is still growing, the university currently practices and hosts competitions at off-campus locations. Local travel will be required to cover practices and home competitions. Athletic Trainers are also expected to travel for postseason events with their respective teams.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work is medium demand. Lifting 100 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects. Medium strength is required to position patients for examination. May assist patients as necessary, helping them on and off the field/court/exam table. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The position will be responsible for managing Athletic Trainers, both full and part time. Supervising roles include scheduling and managing training room operations, coverage of practices and games as needed, as well as overseeing and delegating daily tasks.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Applicants must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license in order to travel to and from practices and home competitions.
