SCOPE OF ROLE
Reporting to the Manager, Behavioral Health in continual collaboration with the Crisis Coordinator, the Counselor, Crisis Presecreener will provide exceptional professional prescreening assessments within the community. The Counselor, Crisis Presecreener will execute appropriate crisis intervention and treatment services to clients and their family’s onsite, within hospital emergency settings, offices, jails, and within the community including clients residence.
HOW YOU’LL SUCCEED
- Ability to physically be onsite at Signature Health’s Ashtabula location within 50 minutes of a received crisis call.
- Maintain client charting in accordance with Medicaid, JCAHO, ODADAS, ODMH, CARF and professional standards.
- Conduct appropriate professional crisis assessments and intervention on an on-call basis at multiple site locations to determine the appropriate levels of care for safety and welfare of the client and others.
- Provide diagnostic assessments which includes a provisional diagnosis with appropriate disposition and pre-hospitalization screening to clients.
- Facilitate hospitalization coordination of care when clinically appropriate and feasible.
- Formulate excellent client care decisions and other appropriate follow-up care when hospitalization is not appropriate or feasible.
- Create a friendly and professional work environment while maintaining clear communication with co-workers, referents or designated liaison person.
- Encourage engagement and participate in all assigned staff meetings and staff development programs.
- Maintain client charting in accordance with Medicaid, JCAHO, ODADAS, ODMH and professional standards.
- Obtain appropriate signatures on documentation to release information to insure HIPPA compliance and facility a high quality of continuation of care.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Valid unencumbered LSW, LISW, LPC, LPCC, LIMFT or MFT License in the state of Ohio required.
- 1-3+ years of experience in the Behavioral Healthcare field is required.
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Experience working in a hospital or jail setting is preferred.
- Possess a working knowledge of mental illness and the disease concept of chemical dependency, Mental Health and Chemical Dependency treatment, Alcoholics Anonymous philosophy, and group dynamics.
- Experience collaborating with other team members to optimize outcomes clients.
- Familiarity of state and federal healthcare regulations.
- Awareness of community and state support resources for population served.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Work may be performed in a typical interior/office/clinical work environment, client residences, and in the community.
- While hours of operation are generally standard, flexibility to work evenings, agency closure days/holidays, and weekends may be required.
- Possible exposure to blood borne pathogens while performing job duties.
- Requires periods of sitting, standing, telephone, and computer work.
- Hearing: adequate to hear clients or patients in person, over the telephone or through telehealth technology.
- Speaking: adequate to speak to clients or patients in person, over the telephone or through telehealth technology.
- Vision: Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and computer screens.
- Physical effort required: occasional lifting and carrying items weighing up to 15 pounds, unassisted.
- Possible exposure to blood borne pathogens while performing job duties.
- Frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting and sitting, with some lifting, pushing and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular workday.
- Sufficient dexterity to operate a PC and other office equipment.
