Before and After School Counselor
Description

Position Summary:

Provides direct supervision to a group of children in a remote learning program and days out program. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. 


Essential Functions:

  1. Supervises a group of children. Monitors children for social distancing, illness, and safety concerns.
  2. Prepares and leads group activities, serves snack, and assists with remote learning.
  3. Plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA core values.
  4. Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards. Maintain strict cleaning and sanitation schedule. 
  5. Attends staff meetings and trainings.
  6. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
  7. Maintains positive relations and communication with youth, guardians, school personnel, supervisor, and staff.
  8. Enforces appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures. Strives to provide for the safety of each child in his/her care. Administers basic First Aid as needed.  
  9. Applies appropriate behavior management techniques.
  10. Performs other duties for the betterment of the program as needed or directed.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  1. High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
  2. Experience working in a child development setting or related activity (specifically 5-12 year olds).
  3. CPR and First Aid Certification and completion of all required safety trainings.
  4. Ability to plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
  5. Leadership skills
  6. Written and oral communication skills
  7. Strong organizational skills
  8. Creativity and patience



Physical Demands:     

Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings. Auditory and visual ability to respond to critical incidents. 

Frequent sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of time.

Occasional push/pull/carry/lift up to 25 lbs.

Ability to respond to emergency situations.
